I'd have say that Daehangno is more of the "arts" area in Seoul due to all the theaters, music houses, bars and restaurants. The area is one of the best in Seoul. People there are happy because they are usually on a date or with friends, or as you said they are a student at one of the best universities in Korea. Bars galore, but no dance clubs, so you don't get the trash that scourse Hongdae.
