... I've never thought about it before, but does anyone know where to get fairly decent Christmas cakes (or seasonal cakes and snacks...) which resemble Western products? Although cakes here are nice, they just don't quite cut it. You can tell the difference between a 'real' cake and a trumped up one. A real cake can last for quite a while in dry storage, whereas most cakes I've found here have soft, wet sponge with creamy tasteless icing that probably goes off after a day. I miss the flavour of rich, fattening and solid icing along with that perfect dark interior... Although it's 'tradition' in Japan and Korea to have sponge cakes at Christmas, I'd prefer a taste of home just once.
Christmas cakes, Christmas Puddings ... (those you pour cream on) - Where are they? |

My mother-in-law sent us one. I would have made one on my own if she hadn't. You can get a great little oven (oversized toaster oven) in Youngsan, that works for baking. I used to have one before I got my real oven. I baked breads, muffins, etc. in it. It was even a rotisserie oven! |
