Is there a legislated separation of church and state in Korea? If there is, I see them being slapped back together on a regular basis. Two recent examples:
At the next (public) school over, there's a school English newspaper (put together by the foreign teacher) with translations of scripture and accompanying pictures. Also, in our English festival there were musicals reenacting biblical scenes.
Any links to what the state has to say about this? |

Many middle and high school students have told me that they have to put up with Christian focused lessons and assemblies while in school. I have heard from teachers and students that it is illegal for schools to do this. However, in Korean top-down hierarchy, it is often the principal that rules with an iron fist. Students have told me that dissident teachers have been fired.
My advice to you is to take a neutral Korean with you and complain to the local Ministry of Education Office if you feel this is entirely inappropriate.
Sorry, dont have a link to school legislation Have a Korean have a go at finding it online. |
