My public school forgot to pay me yesterday. I'm always paid on the 24th if the following day is Saturday. However, I didn't receive my pay yesterday or today. I went to the school, which was open as it's wont to being for HS seniors studying, but the administration wasn't there. Now, I've got to wait until Monday. A bit annoying. This has never happened before -- it's an obvious oversight.

I suppose I'll remind them next time. Just bad timing this go around as the weekend is here. At least Monday isn't a holiday, making the weekend and my waiting time longer.

Same here. This is only my second month at this school. Last month I had to remind them. Looks like I need to remind them every month.

Maybe it's an oversight. Maybe it's a sign of something far more ominous. Sorry to hear about this BS. Can you keep us posted? Sounds like it could point to signs of a sinking Korean ship. One thing I won't do is beg for my pay. If I gotta do that, it's 'auf wiedersehen'. If you guys are begging because the ship is going down, it won't be long and I'll have to start that shit. I want to know before I put in too much time for free, understand.

Man, it really sucks to see the light at the end of a contract and hear these stories. I can see me now hanging in a hotel for three months fighting for my last month's pay and my completion bonus after I'm all through, all the while listening to excuses.

If economic conditions are getting so bad here that public schools are beginning to have fiscal problems, that is something I damn well want to know. Gotta lay plans for a flight, and the sooner, the better. I'm all for staying put here and toughing it out, but I'm not going to play the fool, either. If I stay, I get paid in money, not IOUs and promises.

Read my threads , I had this problem repeatedly. How did I fix it?

For about 6 months, every pay day I'd go in personally to the admin centre and ask them to remember to pay me.

A few times I even asked my co-teacher to remind admin to pay me. Eventually, admin got so sick of this they decided to pay me on time.

Having said that, I still reminded them to pay me yesterday in case they forgot I need to be paid because of the 25th falling on a weekend.

Thankfully, they paid me. If you shame/embarrass them into paying you, they'll eventually get the hint. Laughing

The fact that you have to remind them, virtually begging them to pay you, is absurd. And you're here legally, I assume. Yet another reason(of the many on the list) why people don't come here. If Koreans had their way, they'd work us all 24/7, no pay,and feeding us twigs and leaves(oops, that's Korean cuisine Very Happy ).

The problem is that we are paid on the 25 of each month. Whereas all the other teachers are paid in the middle of the month. ( At the moment, I can't remember the exact date.)

It doesn't surprise me that we get forgotten. Last year, it happen to me that my payday was on a Saturday. I didn't get my money until Monday. The school accountant came to me on the Monday morning to apologize. She said, she was sorry about forgetting my pay.

I do believe if our pay was the same day as the Korean teachers then it will not be easily overlooked.

I just completed 4 months with no problems until now, too. I didn't get paid yesterday nor today either. While I was not depending on that pay to buy me food today, I was expecting it so I will broach this with my accountant on Monday.

I know we get paid on a different day than the rest of the staff and this is quite common to get forgotten about especially if you're at another school on pay day. Outta sight, outta mind. I'm still waiting on my September after school class pay which I'll also look into next week. I seen my liaison co-teacher in a store today, but didn't say anything as to not burden her on the weekend, because I know it can wait until we're at work. I'm really not experiencing much anxiety like I did with a hagwon.

I wouldn't worry just yet. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I made a positive toned phone call of concern to my sponsor this afternoon. She plans to wrap it up on Monday. I'm not worried about it and see it as a simple mistake.

I feel It's a sign of disrespect. Myself, I've never been paid late or had to ask to be paid once in my 8 years here.

If it happens once, I think it was genuinely a mistake. If it happens over and over again, then something might be up. Not sure.

In the 4-1/2 years working EPIK at 2 different schools, they have forgotten my pay once. Actually, they didn't forget, but they had one of those audits that schools have to do every few years. And I guess they had their accounts frozen for a few days as the school board accountants were checking them out. The administration room guy told the two of us at the school dinner that night. He bought us a few beers as an apology. Although, I suspect it probably came out of the school's pocket, not his. Although eventually one of the schools decided to pay me on the same day that they paid the rest of the teacher. My current school still pays me on the 25th and has yet to forget.

Has anyone had to wait and then ask about it after a few months?

What is the longest someone has gone without being paid?

Can you imagine if you never reminded your sponsor or payroll people?

Just "forget" to show up to work for a day or two until your salary is deposited.
VP: Ring. Ring. "Why you not here?"
You: "No money, no workee." Click.

Why don't they just change the day they pay foreigners to the same as everyone else? I have yet to understand why not, especially with this same problem popping up all the time.
