I heard from a freind that if you have visited cuba you cannot get into the states. Is this true?
I would love to go to both within the next year.
I ESP need to go to Cuba before Castro dies, and America gets their 'sticky' fingers into this unique country!
Imagine a counrty without McDonalds ect ect! |

But Cuba is so far away...if only there was a Communist country close to us here in South Korea that had no McDonalds and was untouched by those filty Americans. It would be so awesome to gawk at the starved and deprived citizens, and laugh at how crazy it is that they live under cruel tyrants.
That would be so convenient. Oh well. |

Ohhhh the 'communist' thing and American thing. I forgot!
This will be my one and only post on this msg, feel free to abuse away after! ha ha, like i'll lose any sleep!
BUT can i point out that Cuba has one of the highest quality of life index's in the world!
PS there is a difference between quality of life and standard of living. I dont expect you to know the difference!
I hope you will take it upon your self to look up the difference after you have read this post to educate your self.
You as a country (i assume you are from the US) have tried for decades to topple Castro but yet every time you have failed.
This tiny little country has been laughing at you for sooooo long.
Trade blocks ect ect. They have pissed on them and been adaptive and made the most of the little they have.
Like i said when Castro 'pops it' there will be a vacume for the US to get there sticky (fat, but yet slimming) fingers into Cuba and then you can 'educate' them on the 'American' way.
Yahoooooooooooooooooo. |

OP, this is the second thread where you have posted info based on rumoron the EPIC thread you did as well. Why not get the facts before posting? Asking for the facts here is just going to get you more rumors. Or are you just a troll spreading bad info?
OP, you seem adamantly anti-American in your posts. So why do you want to visits the US? Why are you so anti-American? |

It seems the people most qualified to judge the quality of life of Cubans are...Cubans. And I don't personally know any. But if they are so incredibly happy in their island paradise with the highest quality of life in the world, then why do they risk death or lifetime imprisonment by constantly trying to paddle non-seaworthy vessels onto America shores so they can live out their lives freely in American SLUMS? Don't be such a sucker for Brother Fidel's propaganda, Comrade Gazz.
And these exiles have one agenda...the removal of Castro's regime. There have been plenty of politicians who have floated the idea of lifting the embargo the last few years, but it is considered a "third rail" policy politically. Anyone who touches it will die. Because there is a huge Cuban diaspora in Florida, they are well funded and politically powerful and anyone who tries to take it easy on Fidel will be drummed out of politics. They take to the street and protest anytime a politician even mentions Cuba. They hate Castro so much, that they prefer their families back home suffer from the embargo rather than prop up Fidel one more day than necessary.
So umm...the Cubans don't really seem like satisfied customers. I'm sure you know better than they do though. |

I spent almost 6 months in Cuba in 2001, mostly living "a lo cubano"
Times I will never ever forget.
Women I will never forget. (one reason I am having such difficulty adjusting to Korean women is that I've experienced Latin ones, especially cubanas)
I want to go back, but Cuba was expensive before, now it's INSANELY expensive.
anyways, to answer your question, post, tell your friend he's an idiot.
you fly in thru a third country, and ask the Cuban immigration not to stamp your passport. Never bring anything back in your luggage that Customs can bust you for and suspect you've been in Cuba.
Uncle Sam still has other ways to find out, but usually they don't dig that hard (though they did under idiot boy W, rather than Clinton)
basically the worst that can happen is you can get a notice/letter from the Treasury Dept and be asked to pay a fine. You can usually negotiate this fine down to as low as a grand, from the usual 5-7K. You can also challenge and ask for a hearing, which was usually good enough to stop the process, but under idiot boy W, they have actually held some.
Under an Obama presidency and Dem Congress look for "enforcement" of the travel ban to basically disappear, even if the ban itself does not.
p.s. interestingly enough, SOME examples of this do actually exist in the world... most notably between Israel and Syria and perhaps some other countries. I think if you try to enter Syria and you have an Israeli stamp, they will refuse your entry. |

Ok
I said i wouldnt reply but......
1. I dont hate America, far from it!!! But where i am from in the UK we get quite a few American tourists, as well as a host of other nationalities.
what i do object to (not tarring all Americans with the same brush however) is the loud, 'shout' i am in your country you should thank me mentality.
PS as i said i DO NOT tar all Americans with this brush.
FFS i know my own Countries sort comings when it come to 'brits abroad!!!'
As for the EPIK thing you are right! I did, after posting read the info on the EPIK web site.
But i didnt speculate in the new contract. I seem to remember leaving it as a ...............
Anyway, i feel suitably guilty to beat the palms of my feet until they bleed
In terms of a suitable comparison site Cuba vs US or the UK for that matter, it doesnt exist due to the different ideals/policies of the countries.
I do seem to remember reading however (no i cannot give you a link to the site, i read may) where Americans try to go to Cuba to get free medical care????
Yes we also get this in the UK but from what i believe the Cuban's are less likely to die from a host of secondary bacterial infections that 'we' get in the UK.
Any way - peace and love, hope you all have a good night.xxx |

The answer is no. No. Negatory. Annio. 아니. Nyet. Never. Ever. Ever. This statement is not true.
Ignore all other postings. Such a thing does not exist. |

I am aware that a difference exists between Quality of life and Standard of living. Additonally, I am aware that the former is not tangible and cannot be measured since it is based on a communal sense of psychological and physical well-being. I am sure that the quality of life measurements of DPRK (though still inaccurate) would rate high as well. I am curious if this is due to the fact that they are unaware of their standard of living compared to the rest of the world, which would then have an impact on their quality of life. It is not as drastic as DPRK, but they have nothing to compare themselves to.
On a more "from the people" approach I am curious as to how many Cuban translpants are living in the UK? Of the many that I have met (and I would say well over 100) in the USA, I have yet to meet ONE that regrets coming to the USA and wish they could get back into Cuba. Most of the time the main problem is that they want to get their families to the USA, but cannot go back, because they will be locked up. I have a friend that has been to Cuba and he wasn't locked up upon his return to the USA. I think that says something about a country regardless of "quality of life." Reference whatever statistics you like, but the point is... talk to Cubans that live in the states and then ask them who wants to go back......hmmmm.
With that said, I would someday like to go to Cuba for the fact that it is a unique and interesting place due to its situation. It is not unlike North Korea. I can appreciate many aspects about it, but c'mon.....it isn't paradise. Oh wait ....maybe I am just contributing to the web of lives America spreads in its quest for global dominance. Maybe in some situations, but Cuba? They did park nukes there if I recall, and I don't see us invading them for their resources (like you could argue for other countries). |
