I was wondering where I could buy a PS3 or XBox 360 that will work with American games. I hear Yongsan is the place for electronics, but I thought they might only have ones made for Korea. Thanks for any help. |

PS3s are region free. And from what a friend tells me who owns an XBox, some of the titles you get here will be in English. If you mod the Xbox, you won't be able to go online, (from what I am told.) as it will brick your box. But then, you can get all the American titles for 15,000 won, or burn them yourself. |

I am also debating whether to get a PS3 or Xbox360. I hear Xbox has the better games but its online capabilities leave something to be desired.
I also want Blu Ray but the new PS3 do not have the SACD compatibility that it used to have (I hear SACD with the HDMI connection is LEAGUES better than optical or coaxial connection). Plus PS3 is not backwards compatible.
Now Netflix and Xbox have joined forces to offer online movie rentals, and if this service is available in Korea, then I might have to shift my preference. |

Almost any new game worth it's weight in salt is offering some kind of unique online gaming angle. All the new sports titles are infinitly more enjoyable online playing against real people. That goes for first person shooters as well. This is where the PS3 rules. Doesn't cost a penny to play online and the online lobbies I have been in so far have been quite fast. |

Xbox. And I've never owned one.
PS3 has been a big disappointment on the gaming side of things. Xbox has a much larger following. Blu-ray movies are nice, but very pricey in Korea (except for certain crappy titles). Sony Pictures is leaving Korea due to its inability to compete with pirates on the DVD side, so I assume we'll have to import blu-rays from now on -- they're so expensive to import, with the high won rate.
I'm disappointed in the PS3 for games. Movies, its been great. But that was while I was getting a better price by shipping them here from Amazon in the USA. |

Damn, are you serious? Sony Korea is leaving so no more Korean-made Blu Ray? Sheesh, this country just gets better and better every day. |

No the xbox has far better online capabilites...I owned both systems back home....the Ps3 is nice if your setting up a home theater, but other than that it sucks....all the best games for Ps3 are on the xbox 360 and those versions are Superior! Also some versions of the ps3 support SACD if I remember correctly.
Xbox has been offering it's online gaming services for 5 years now and it shows....it costs about 50 bucks a year, but it's worth it...the only benefit to Ps3 online is "less kids & more people who have jobs" according to my friend... |

Dude. I had the Xbox 360 for years before I got my PS3 and while that remark may sound trivial you have no idea how much of an impact on gaming that has.
I could never get through a 360 game without some idiot little kid goofing around, team killing, saying things like "poopy poopy shit pants" and laughing his retarded little head of for 15 minutes.
PS3 is wicked. I'm currently on to fifa 09 and the online community is great. Adults with adult conversations, actually talking football and strategy during macthes. The experiece blows away anything I experienced on the Xb0x. |

If you're interested in gaming, get the 360. If you're interested in a home multimedia supermachine, get the PS3. |

Really? Makes that much of a difference?
I never got to use the online gaming portion on the ps3 when I had it...all the games I wanted I had or played on the 360(*I set the system up during the summer for my parents).
I assumed it was a semi-joking comment.....well add one plus to the ps3 online system...other than that I found everything else less polished and not as great as xbox live(more demos, contests, extra content, meet up features, etc.)...maybe when ps3 finally finishes setting up HOME it will be king.
Your right on the money about the annoying kids...they sucked ass and sounded like little girls. |

True seoulsucker.
Interestingly, the review of Fallout 2 I read state the ps3 looks version is noticeably worse than the 360 one. The ps3 is still new to programmers.
I always was a Sony user, but I love the 360. The graphics are very good and immersive on a large plasma or LCD . The sound is awesome via HDMI I think the interface is excellent, as is online play.
The games are costing me about 1200 won which is important to me as well. As long as games are region free or Asia coded I'm fine. I'm impressed, and wonder why I didn't go Xbox earlier. Actually the graphics are getting better on the 360 with time. |

I'm hoping to pick up a PSP soon, and think yongsan will be a good spot for that. How hard is it to find English games there? I want to get some good ones, but need English instructions for the games. |

I have a psp. They can be easily hacked. They will do it a Youngsan or do it yourself if your confident with tech. Get a memory card, put games downloaded on, and play.
The 360...
What do you mean by American games? If you mean English games, then yes, most of the games will be in English I'd say. They will be region coded to Korea/japan, or be region free. The Korean 360 will not play US DVDs (movies), or US region games. |
