Hi everyone,

Just to ask you a couple of teaching tips/suggestions for 2 of my one-on-one classes. Both of my students are from boarding schools in the States. They haven't been there too long (one students has been there for a year; the other for about 4 months). I have to teach them during their winter break....8 sessions, I think.

Student 1: He's in 8th grade, hoping to improve on his writing skills. He will be taking his TOEFL test, starting early next year because it is a requirement for the school that he plans to attend in the fall next year. He's been attending school in the states for about a year now. His mother wants us to focus on the written part of the TOEFL test. Suggestions??

Student 2: She's in the 7th grade, a newbie in the states (4 months, I think). Her mother wants us to focus on reading/comprehension and writing. Does anyone have a reading list for kids going onto the 8th grade in the States.

Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.

TOEFL(in short)-Throw topics out for writing each session, focus on essay format in order to reinforce making a point through essay. This technically isn't necessary, but it's easy enough to teach and will help the student learn how to support ideas.

That's what I'd do, anyways...

Thanks Zyzyfer for the tip.
Anyone else out there who can lend a helping hand?

Another question: Any marking tips for grading the writing section for TOEFL?
