I got my SMOE job with Footprints back in August... The guy that handled all of my stuff (Ryan) was top notch... Suppose it all depends on what you're looking for... |

Reply by email with an appropriate time to call and number....let them call you. That's almost always the protocol.
Yes, they are legit and a good organization. They take care of the needs of their clients. As always, still do your homework and represent your own end. Takes two to make this tango...

And don't be down when they offer you Kids College and Wonderland contracts right out of the gate... Every recruiter I've ever heard of will do the same (they're trying to pass off the places with bad reps first in the hopes that you havn't been doing your homework...) |

Any recruiter that pitches one of these schools is a recruiter to avoid. They are letting you know very early on that they ARE NOT out to serve your interests. Take a pass. A good recruiter is one that serves the needs of both parties. Wonderland and Kids College are notorious for ripping foreigners off.
I ditched a recruiter for forwarding me a crappy contract. I figured that if this guy would have me sign a document that NOBODY should ever sign, then how else will he f*** me over?
I ended up with an alright recruiter. Not great. Not terrible. As such, I got a not-great, not-terrible first job. I cut my teeth and now no longer need a recruiter. |

Footprints seems to do things in a very strange way.
I told them I was looking for a job that started in September. That was in June. I got an e-mail saying that they would be recruiting for September in July and wanted me to wait.
I told them I wanted to speed up the process because I really wanted to line something up before I left Korea for a vacation in Canada. Also, my thinking was that the better jobs would be looking for teachers early rather than at the last minute. I didn't get a response again from them until the middle of July, when I had long since lined up a job through another recruiter.
When you're looking for a job in Korea, there are hundreds of other recruiters ready to be much more proactive than Footprints. Unless you're only planning to deal with one recruiter during your job search (which would be stupid) I wouldn't bother with them. They just don't seem to be in tune with the reality of the job market here and are way too anal about their application process.
For my two past job searches I posted my resume here on Dave's ESL Cafe and within 24 hours I was getting spammed by recruiters and schools wanting to hire me. Yes, you get a lot of crap that way. But if you know how to sift through the crap you can find some gold in there. Also, a lot of schools will contact you directly through this method, which saves them money and might be reflected in how much they are willing to offer you in terms of salary too. |

Would it be worded "Kids college " or "Wonderland" on the contract? |

I figured it out! "Kid's college and "Wonderland" are both private schools. Correct? I am looking for a public school. It will stick out on the contract if they try to put a company's name on the contract. |

I arranged an interview with FP after taking time off from 2 jobs - sat by the phone - they failed to call at time they said they would - bad sign - then I called - recruiter unprepared - didn't have my documents in front of him - didn't know questions to ask me or how to answer my questions. Then told me the job I wanted wasn't available - but I could fly over without a job - and he would set me up. The job I wanted is still posted by the way (large number of jobs for a public school in another country).
Then they kept sending me stuff about Korea - so I started researching that country - again each job posted - they try the bait and switch.
Like people say it is like car salesman - they get a bonus if they get rid of a certain job (one no one wants).
Now they have alot of individuals working for them - and some may be better than others - just you don't get a choice - they just hook you up with who ever they decide.
But really I didn't like that kind of treatment and can't at this time recommend them to anyone.
But some teachers seem happy with them. |

They told me they can't help me because they don't like my accent. |

Their website is pretty impressive, but I noticed that some photos are the same for more than one job advertisement, which doesn't inspire confidence that they are accurate!
Their interview was quite thorough, compared to others. |

Footprints was the first recruiter I contacted about 3.5 years ago before coming to Korea.
After accepting my initial application they said the would phone me to do an interview. I waited a week to no avail, then called their Vancouver office (long distance). The person 'in charge' of my file was not there - I was told she would call me the next day. No call. Waited another week and called them again. Same story - "She will call you back tomorrow." No call. This 'dance' went on for over a month. When I FINALLY did speak to her, I was told they were not interested in me because I was inexperienced and male.
I immediately contacted another recruiter and within 24 hours was offered a public contract... and have been here ever since.
Footprints = idiots! |
