|
|
Airplane tickets are creeping up towards the 1 million won mark even for Southeast Asian cities.
Once you land in Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam the won has lost ALOT of it's former value and you'll end up paying much more for hotels, food, and tourist activities.
Say goodbye to the cheap Southeast Asian getaway! |

The ticket prices are still worth getting away from the locals. |

Even those are going up in price. A year and a half ago, I only had to pay 15 dollars to use frequent flyer miles for a vacation. Now, more recently, I booked a flight to Thailand for December. I had to pay 67 dollars.
Of course, its still cheap, but I just thought I would point that out. |

I used my SkyMile points on Korean Air for a return trip to Thailand this December/January. It cost me 50,000 points (that I can live with) PLUS 275,000 won in taxes. So much for a free ticket! |

I wish taxes were as cheap as that on my FF program - Flying Blue includes fuel surcharge as part of the award tickets......makes using miles worthless unless you use them for Business , open ended or peak time tickets.

I probably would just have gritted my teeth and stumped the extra cash for a regular ticket (can`t have been that much more?) and used the miles for something more worthy in the future.....but to each their own.
Skymiles sounds as bad as my FF program |

I paid cash for my wife's ticket direct to Chiang Mai on Korean Air. Total price with tax was 985,000 won. As I said, my free ticket was 275,000 due to taxes. |

I just booked a RT to HCMC for early January and the cheapest I could get which didn't include a very f-d up flight schedule was around 1.1M KW (inc. all taxes etc.). There were cheaper flights but spending a day in Beijing with a W150,000 visa for Americans, no thank you. Or, leaving HCMC at 1AM on my final "day" didn't work for me either. |

Sorry for the confusion as I booked the flight from Fukuoka, Japan. I always visit friends there and the tickets are usually cheaper compared to Korea. I recently got the final price from No1 Travel and my total is Y85,000 for the RT. However, in order to save ~$600USD, I have to stay one night in Hong Kong on the return-which I don't mind. Direct flights are double my price. Ouch! |
