Hey guys,
I need your advice. I want to get a professional haircut done with my hair, but sadly my Korean isn't good enough yet to say what I want in Korean.
Are there any professional hairstylists in Itaewon that speak decent enough English? Also, I have curly hair, which is different than the regular straight hair Koreans have.
Any clues here would be very helpful.
Thank you,
Daniel |

I don't really know what you mean by a professional haircut, but I just want to let you know that most stylists I've come across here have lived abroad practicing their craft, so they usually know a bit of English.
If you venture to the Green Turtle in Itaewon, you should find that everyone speaks decent English. A man called Michel cut my hair. His English was totally fine and the cut was alright for 20 bucks. My hair is really curly as well. Nothing to worry about there. |

I don't know the name of the place, but upstairs from the Quizno's there is a really nice place. I went there on Saturday and got a cut, color, and highlights for 85,000 won. |

That's the Green Turtle that I mentioned. They're pretty decent and the price is right. |

I heard you have to keep your eye on these Green Turtle people though, because they are "scissor happy". I can't stand stylists who cut too much of my hair. It's thick and takes forever to grow. Not to mention, many stylists here will thin out your hair when you go for a trim. You've got to watch out. |

Princess, have you had your hair cut at the Green Turtle? It doesn't sound like it. Perhaps some people you know have had weird experiences, or wer slightly disappointed...but I think it best to just relay first hand experiences to this type of query.
I've got seriously curly hair...and a lot of it, so I appreciate a stylist who isn't afraid of getting in there and giving my hair the layers and thinning-out it needs. I think the OP said he also had really curly hair. That's why I suggested the salon and stylist.
Further, I'm not really that scared of a bad haircut. Been there done that, and it's just hair. That's my point of view though. I've been to another stylist in apkujong who was lovely and did a great job (and the cost was only 10 bucks more, at 30 a cut and style), but it's just too far for a bloody haircut.
Also, Michel said he'd dye and cut/style for 70 bucks. Maybe that's what he quoted as I've got short hair. Anyway, worth a shot. |

Thanks a lot PrideofIdaho and Princess.
I'll go to the Green Turtle on Monday, and see how it goes.

I got my hair cut at Green Turtle today, the staff were really friendly but agree with the previous post with them being 'scissor happy', normally a cut back home would take much longer but I guess you get what you pay for because it was really cheap. |
