Has anyone ever taken the ferry to China? How much does it cost? |

I've done it before. I forget how much it costs, but it's a 24+ hour trip, and you should be careful if you're going to Tianjin on the way to Beijing. I had an awful experience taking the bus from there to Beijing... |

Aw man, it's so long, and I'm on a laptop......
Well, the ferry itself wasn't bad at all. I went with two friends, and we had a VCR in our room, so we watched movies and all. No problems there. One of my friends was talking to a Korean guy a lot, and the guy offered to help us get a bus, since he could speak Chinese as well. We agreed, since we knew nothing about Chinese.
We were put on a little bus that could hold about 15 people. Waited for 15 minutes for the engine to warm up, had no heat(this was in the winter), and the bus had no shocks whatsoever. The bus drivers also tried to dump us off at the train station at the next city, even though we had paid to go all the way to Beijing. In retrospect, though, we probably should've stayed at the train station, because on the next leg of the trip, the bus broke down several times. The bus drivers were actually repairing the engine WHILE they were driving the bus!
To boot, we arrived in Beijing at 4 am, when everything was closed down for the night, and we were stuck out in the cold for the next 3 hours because of that.
China was great, but be wary of the buses that go from Tianjin to Beijing... |
