I have been in Korea for 3 months now, and have just started getting dandruff. This is a new phenomena for me, I think it might be the weather. Does anyone know of any good shampoos and conditioners here. I have head and shoulders, but it isn't doing me much good.
Very off topic I know, but there seem to be a lot of "know it alls" (I mean that in a nice way) in this forum.
Thanks for any advice. I think the one other time I had dandruff I used Selsun Blue, but I haven't seen that here. I know it has a different active ingredient than H & S, but don't know the Korean equivalent. |

Did it happen to begin right when you ran out of shampoo from home and bought some here? If so, it's not dandruff, your scalp is just dry. I picked up some new shampoo on my visa run to Japan and it took care of most of the flakes. Head and Shoulders is the LAST thing you want to use, it will dry you out even more. |

If you want more exact info in it, it's called seborrheic dermatitis.
The common treatments are head and shoulders and Selsun Blue, both of which contain selenium sulfide. A couple of other treatments that you can try to find over here (not sure if they have them here) is a shampoo that has coal tar. I know one of the Swiss formula shampoos had one back in the states. Just a warning though, they don't smell as nice as most other shampoos, but have a better success rate.
It's an inflammatory condition, so one last thing you could try (this is easier if you have short hair) is to go get an over the counter steroid, and apply that straight to the scalp. Hydrocortizone is prescription only here, but they do have an OTC equivalent, available at any pharmacy here.
Take care, and good luck.

Take a comb and scrub your head with it. Like stimulate your scalp. Then pat lemon juice directly onto the stimulated area - not hair - just scalp. If you can get someone to do it for you it's better.
After shampoo and condition. Repeat once a week until gone.
And if you are really worried about it go to a pharmacy and buy special dandruff control shampoo. |
