I hear the government is cracking down on hagwons. In my area, I am guessing, they are doing that, and someone in government that is corrupt, apparently, is tipping off the hagwons to protect them, and I had to leave work early. I am completely legal, but at least one of my Korean colleagues doesn't have the proper qualifications to teach there.
President Lee Myung Bak will have a hard time making hagwons follow the law, but I can understand his drive against hagwons that don't follow the law and deceive parents and what have you.
Have you heard anything about raids occuring these days? I do like that colleague who is illegal. It isn't her fault, it's management's fault for replacing the foreigner who was in her position, my friend, with a Korean who speaks great English who doesn't have the right credentials to teach. I only kind of knew about this through a kyopo. There is so much stuff you can learn if you can speak Korean.
What do you guys think about that new law requiring that elementary students not be allowed to study after 10 p.m. at hagwons? Do you think the government is serious about its drive against the bad practices of many hagwons out there? |
