So congratulations to the young Korean female figure skater for becoming the new world champion.

I found out about it from my CT. She asked me if I have of ***** (sorry, don't know her name) and of course I said no. She looks at me strangely and told me that she is the new world champion in figure skating. I said wow great. But she pushed again to ask if I new her.

Again I said no. She becomes a little annoyed and asking me why I don't know her. I explained that I don't follow those kinds of sports. As a matter of fact I don't follow any particular sport. Said that I could not name any world champion - Korean or not.

Still wasn't enough to ease the pain. I understand the idea of pride in ones country (persons/peoples) achievements but the reaction was surprising.

I had a similar experience except with the swimmer Park from the olympics.

I was asked if I knew about this great Korean swimmer. I answered: I think so, isn't he the guy that is only 1/8th as good as the best in the world?

Didn't go over so well.

Your coteacher is wrong. Kim Yu Na is not world champion. She recently won some other tournament, but not worlds. To add insult, the current world champ is a Japanese woman. Make sure to point this out to your CT..

Yeah my wife was watching this the other day. I think it was just a meet of the top skaters. Wasn't the world championships. I could be wrong though. It was on at the same time as the ufc and I wasn't exactly enamored.
