I got my schedule for the next few months, and it doesn't show anything for January. It just goes from December to February. When does the semester officially end and the next one begin? Or does it depend on the school? I know there will be camps, but I am just trying to get an idea of the actual school year. I thought the new semester started in March. |

there is some variety depending on the school, but based on initial questions asked, my school will be off from around Dec 22 until beginning of Feb. Then there will be another week off or slightly more at end of Feb for "spring break".
I'm hitting a beach somewhere. |

Even though there is Spring Break. You may not have the time off. When I worked at a GEPIK high school I had to come in and sit in an empty classroom for a week during spring break.

Negotiate vacation into your contract. This might not be possible for a first year contract, but if you're re-signing and you've done a decent job, it's not unreasonable to ask for more vacation so you don't have to sit in in an empty school during summer, winter and spring vacations. I do 1 week of intensive camps (3 hours teaching, 1 hour lunch break, 3 hours teaching) during summer and winter, and the rest of the time is vacation. |
