OK so here's the thing....
My husband leaves out for Korea in a couple weeks to teach in a public school. My question is will it be legal for me to do some privates for extra income? I have no degree and cant legally work in a school, but my goodness we'll be here for a year and I get bored very easily!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
See y'all in a few weeks! |

Legally no. However, there are several orphanages in Korea which really need people to interact with the children and try to teach them English. They would be so thankful to have someone with your circumstances be available to them. |

So, I could legally volunteer in an orphanage? That would be great. It's so strange to me that I cant just go get a job while I am over there but here in the states an illegal immigrant can work with little trouble and no deportation . But, I understand wanting to live here...
Thanks teachergirltoo |

Without permission from immigration even working for free is a violation of your visa terms. |

Um, it's the same thing. Illegal immigrants in the US, if caught, can be deported and/or fined. People illegally working in Korea, if caught, can be deported and/or fined. You're not really likely to get caught if you're careful, but I mean, it is a risk.
What do you think happens when they catch illegal immigrants in the US? They certainly don't send them a fruit basket. |

It varies from state to state as well as within some states. In some areas if an illegal is picked up by the police, the police are prohibited from contacting immigration. In some areas they are required to. |

You can do it legally, but FIRST, you must go down to immigration and file for permission to do activities outside your visa (can't remember the official name right now). It will cost you 60,000 won to file for the permission. |

I really don't understand how people who go to countries other than their own to work, due to better opportunities etc, can have a negative attitude towards others who are also looking for better opportunities.
Clearly life is not easy as an undocumented worker in the US. To say that people work illegally in the US with little trouble is simply untrue.
You would be surprised just how many Americans I have met who were working illegally in Mexico, where unlike in the US only the employer is held responsible for illegal workers. The employer pays a fine and the workers are neither fined nor deported.
I won't go into the many other misconceptions that people have about undocument workers, becuase this isn't really the place for it. But I have to say that you clearly are uneducated on the subject. |

I dont have a negative attittude about someone living here legally and working here legally. It's those who come here with no paperwork, no anything who annoy me. I completely understand why someone would want to be here.
Clearly life is NOT easy here as an illegal? Have you ever seen the way these people lived in Mexico? To come here and live in a clean apartment, even though you're sharing it with all your cousins and in-laws, your life compared to how it was is a breeze. Might as well send them that fruit basket... We pay their medical bills when they fall off a roof they were working on (illegally) and when they've been in an accident because they were drunk as a skunk and killed a family of 4...
Did I ask how it was for an illegal in Mexico? Do I care? Not really. And here if you get deported at least you had a nice life for a while. If it's illegal you shouldnt be doing it. |
