Thanks. |

thanks, I've got a big new emart near me. Any idea what section of emart those would be found? They're not near the coffee....and nothing really ever seems to be where I think it should be. |

Actually, I've found some whole beans in Emart as well. I haven't had a chance to test them out because I don't have a grinder as of yet.
In my previous year here, I was actually importing beans from Canada, which worked out to be cheaper than buying a pound of whole beans from starbucks with the shipping and everything. It's easier if you can get a few friends or coworkers in on it to cut the costs and order in bulk. |

The burr grinder at starbucks is a bit overpriced.
The blade grinder at starbucks is ridiculously overpriced.
For a better deal just do a search on gmarket for 커피 그라인더
Search around and take a look at some then, if you don't have decent hangeul skills, switch over to the English site. The grinders you looked at should all be in your recently viewed items. You can now purchase it in English and it'll arrive the next day most likely.
As for beans........
All of the whole beans that I've purchased at big marts have been overpriced and the coffee has been very acidic. Home-ever has a selection of Japanese coffees that are good but they are pre-ground and overpriced.
Homeplus probably has the best of the marts. They sell Tesco whole beans and Peruvian whole beans.
Department stores sell good whole bean coffee...but it'll cost you 20-50 for 200 grams!!!...and it's still not even that good!!!!!
So...for anyone who lives in the Seoul area and is craving REALLY good coffee...take a trip out to Geumjeong Station. There is a little whole in the wall coffee shop run by a younger, short, funny little Korean guy who is pretty much a coffee scientist. At Geumjeong station there are two walking bridges that go over the street. The coffe shop is just near the old walking bridge. It's called Caffe Mua...and it's my amazing little secret. He imports all his own beans and roasts them in the shop and he sells them for cheaper than you can buy anywhere else. I can smell my morning cup of fresh Costa Rican already. |

Great coffee there. I make the trip once every couple of weeks. The guy who runs the place is a coffee scientist indeed. |

No good coffee at Emart, but Homeplus stores have gourmet coffee beans called, "Hikoka," in a sea green colored 200 gram bag. The Hikoka is the best I've had in Korea and far surpasses Starbucks while Starbucks is better quality than the others. Hikoka would qualify as one of the finer strong gourmet coffees of the world. |

I should correct my directions to Cafe Mua at Geumjeong Station. It's near the NEWER subway overpass and not the older one like I previously mentioned. Sorry. |
