Watched this this evening, it having largely slipped under my radar when it was released a couple of months back.
I enjoyed it more than No Country in some respects, inasmuch that it's more in keeping with their proven formulaic approach of old; unlikely characters who are hopelessly out of their depth; edgy, violent, yet laugh-out-loud funny in places; great casting (Clooney excellent. Pitt a pratt); snappy dialogue; great photography, lighting et cetera.
Not sure if it's on general release in Korea yet, but if it is and you've got a spare 90-minutes this weekend ... |

I thought it was the Coen brothers latest contribution to the drinking game genre. Every time Malkovitch says, "what the FK!!!" you drink, so you don't really notice what's going on at the end of the movie. |

I watched it last night. Not a terrible movie, but I think I could have spent the time watching something more entertaining. A bit amusing in places and the ending was a bit "WTF". But also slightly thought provoking I guess. |

WTF endings can really suck sometimes.
It's good to know ahead that it will be a WTF ending. |

Regarding the "WTF ending," I like what Roger Ebert said about the movie :
"....I thought the end felt like it arrived a little arbitrarily. I must be wrong, because I can't figure out what could have followed next. Not even the device in the basement would have been around for another chapter."
I agree with him on that level, however he didn't like the movie as a whole.
I did enjoy the movie. I especially liked the dramatic shifts from comedy to violence and violence to comedy. That's a theme that I think the Coen brothers are really good at.
I love all of their movies, but I would put this one somewhere in the middle of thier work.
I was really looking forward to "Hail Caesar," but I see it has been put on the back burner. "A Serious Man" has an interesting concept, and it should be good. I hope Alan Arkin has a big role, he is awesome. He was great in "Northern Exposure." |

I loved the head of the CIA. A small role but it was a scene stealer each time. |

I don't understand these "WTF?" ending complaints. It's not like the Coen bros. are renowned for making plot driven movies. Seems to me that their movies have always placed greater emphasis on developing characterization rather than water-tight plot scenarios. I didn't feel short-changed by the ending. In fact, I seem to remember it closed pretty much as it began and book-ended everything rather well. |

Just thinking about that contraption makes me laugh. Clooney's expression was priceless. He seemed so proud of it. |
