I'm freezing. I wore a t.shirt, button-up shirt, sweater, and a coat in class today and I was still cold. All the teachers are complaining also. But the principal will not turn on the heat.

Is this an issue I can contact the Gyeonggi Do Education office about? Who would I contact at the office?

This is an issue in almost all schools. Principals often refuse to turn on the heat so the school can save money. Even when the heat is on, students often open the windows. Good luck getting anyone to turn the heat on until December.

Maybe it`s time for the electric heater to come out. Principal thinks he is smart - 220v plug in!

last year the school turned off the heat in the office (because of construction at the school), so i brought in my heating blanket. that or an electric heater is a good idea to invest in this winter. you'll most likely be spending a lot of time in the school during the vacation.

Yet another thing hagwons have on public schools: Climate control. Couple that with clean facilities, and they become hard to resist!

We don't have heating systems in my 2 public schools. I taught in a hagwon and it didn't have a heating system either, but when it got freezing cold, we used LPG tank powered heaters. The school buildings seem more suitable to tropical climates they are basic concrete and wood structures without AC/heating systems.

I don't think the heat goes on until December 1st at my GEPIK school. Then once it's on, it's not unusual for all the windows to be open. Also, it goes off the second classes end even though all the teachers have to stay for another couple of hours (I'm at an Elementary school).

I remember it being a very, very cold winter last year. I told many teachers in the school that I was colder far more in Korea than I was in Canada. Of course they just laughed at that, even though I was dead serious.

A NeBok or thermal underwear will be a wise investment for working in PESs.
Warm gloves, a mask or neck tube could also prove to be a lifesaver.
You may catch flu if you get to cold sitting about in an elemtary school.
The staffroom will probably be heated to some degree?
