Hey everyone .. I just moved to Korea and am still getting settled in. I set up a bank account with Nonghyup and I really need to send money home, but I coming into a few problems.

Since I work at a public school I can never get to a bank unless I request time off and a co-teacher or any other English teacher always assists me. But, Nonghyp actually tried to charge me 44,000 won to transfer money, to the states! So, I flat out said, "no" and was told I could transfer money online... for hopefully a cheaper rate.

BIG problem though, how do I get the "certificate" I need to do online banking, when I don't have my ARC yet .. so I don't have the National Identification # they're asking for. I registered bank account with my passport, does anyone know a way around this?

Any help would be appreciated. I have a bill due in 9 days and I need to transfer some money home.

go buy some travelers checks and send them to your bank back home or to someone who can pay the bill for you

give yourself some time to get used to things here and how to do such things as send money home which there are many threads on here worth reading -

cheers!

oh, btw, fedex the travelers checks if you don't have time to wait for the mail - but here to the u.s. is about 9 days or so - regular mail, that is - fedex maybe 30 bucks

just got mine today... but it might be a problem for you because...

you need to go to the bank with your alien registration card, passport, bankbook, a usb memory stick and contact information for your employer (i just took my head teacher's business card)...

tell them you want an "e-certificate" so that you can do online banking... they will have you fill out a lot of paperwork... then, have them help you register online while you're at the bank... this is where the usb stick comes in... whatever computer you register on gives you the option of saving the info either on that computer alone or on a usb stick (i used my ipod and some people have used their cell phones)... you have to choose one... have them show you the ropes of their website (specifically how to transfer $)...

all in all, it took me an hour to do... there may be an easier way, but this is how my school told me to do it... good luck

I wanted to privately PM you, but I haven't posted 25 posts yet. But, thank you for the help. It helped a lot!

I went to the bank today and set up everything, but they were confused when I asked them how to transfer money. So, I'm trying to figure it out myself right now. But, it looks like I don't have NACF account so I can't send money internationally? Is this something you had to go through too?

This is giving me a huge headache.
