Don't know if I'm missing something here, but was just on the Air Canada website checking one way prices back home to Toronto. It seems anything ahead of 2~3 weeks from Inchon to Toronto is $470, tax is $200. So it's coming in at under $700
This pricing continues on through the new year, except around Christmas of course. Does this seem insanely cheap to anyone else? |

They'll find some BS tax and you will never see that ticket for less than $1000. |

Hard to believe, but if it is, nice that I'm from Michigan and could take advantage of that |

Did you go through the entire booking stage? To the point of purchase? I saw the same thing when I was looking to go to Canada to visit family. The prices started at $500, but by the time you get to the purchase stage, it jumped up to $1800+.
I've never understood why airlines do that. Surely it leaves a bad taste in people's mouths when they think they've found such a great deal, only to have the carpet yanked out from under them at the last minute.

Just as I said.
Last year, our tickets for $1800 ended up at $3400 after all BS taxes, surcharges, etc. |

Canadian Airlines are absolutely horrible for that. I really wish there was something done in terms of them not being allowed to advertise which ultimately is false pricing. |

Welcome to reality.
Whenever I see an advertised "cheap fare" I always double the price and add on an extra 100 bucks or so for good measure.
The reality is that flying is no longer "cheap" and we are going to have to live with that.
It will only get worse in the next few years as we suck the little remaining oil from the earth and continue to increase our population.
More and more people will want to fly and we'll all have to pay top dollar in the end.
I think 1500-1800 bucks for a return ticket from Asia to the outlying areas of North America will be the norm for another 2-3 years or so and we will eventual head into the low 2000s for the same airfare.
In 10-15 years, I see a huge reduction in the number of scheduled flights worldwide and only a few wealthy people being able to take those flights as we head on down the slope of peak oil.
.......now back to my yoga and happy thoughts! |
