I handed in my SMOE application and had my paperwork all ready two weeks ago, but haven't heard from SMOE. I'm in the States and waiting to hear about the possibility of getting hired for late Feb.

I am wondering if I missed the boat and they already hired a lot of people or if they are still in the process of hiring. Or is it still early.

If you got hired for Feb/March, around when did SMOE call you to hire you?

Should I try going through another recruiter?

It'd be nice to know ASAP as I have a lot banking on getting this job.

I don't know why they wouldn't hire me, I have teaching experience, and I'm just about to finish my masters in Education.

whisky tango foxtrot?

a recruiter just tried to hire me the other day for SMOE (wasn`t looking for a job in the first place) so I guess they`re still looking. I don`t think they filled all their positions last time around and I can`t imagine they will this time around especially with the current exchange rate

SMOE is currently hiring for February/March 2009. These positions seem to be harder and harder to get as more people are applying for them lately.

OP,

You need to give your application/information to a recruiter that SMOE goes through. If you end it directly to SMOE, they will just delete/trash it.

Public school positions are pretty solid overall, but the pay scale is a bit tough on first year teachers. If you want to go for a public school I recommend getting a TESL/TESOL to get a bump in pay.

- I have given my stuff to a recruiter that SMOE uses to hire FT's

-I will be finished with my Masters degree in December (M.S. in Education).
- I also have more than 2 years of experience

I guess I just thought that I would have gotten hired early on.

They collect all the applications.
They wait till their hiring date closes.
They wait till they find out how many current FTs they have to replace (end of Dec).
They eleminate the worst or those who are not qualified from the applicant pool.
They contact the rest with a job offer and letter of invitation.
Don't expect an answer before February (for a March start).
This is Korea. Strategic planning here would be considered crisis management anywhere else (everything is last minute).

SMOE will know a decent number by November 6th as that is when current teachers must decide whether or not to renew with SMOE.

I was told.. that the public schools are looking to hire everyone by mid-December, but the reality is that they will stop hiring when the positions are full

On the SMOE application form under number 14 (preferences) it lists "elementary, secondary (middle) school, Seoul Global High school, Seoul English Center or Seoul Education Training Institute" ... what is Seoul English Center and what is Seoul Education Training Institute?
