Boxing Day is December 26, when people are supposed to box up their ugly Christmas decorations. Unfortunately, they usually get left out well into the new year. |

In England a long time ago
Servants were required to work on Christmas. They were responsible for making the holiday run smoothly for wealthy landowners. They were allowed to take leave on December 26th and visit their families. The employers gave each servant a box containing gifts and bonuses. In addition, around the 800s' churches opened their alms boxes (boxes where people place monetary donations) and distributed the contents to poor.
So no, unless you're a poor servant, or just English, you don't qualify. |

boxing day is a day where stores usually have huge sales on the crap they couldn't convince you to buy before christmas...
malls are packed, roads are jammed, chaos ensues..
I usually try to avoid leaving the house altogether on that day.. its madness... |

Well I do feel like a poor servant from old england, so I will take the day off....at home it's more like a friends day, like we hang out with our families in chrissie day, and then bugger off to the beach with our mates and have a relaxing day to counteract the enforced politeness that is Xmas.,
Maybe not a servant.... perhaps an educated slave from Greek times that wealthy folk used to buy to educate their brats. |
