I tried a new lesson this week and it went well with both classes. My Korean coteacher actually requested it at the start of my second class; so, I know she really liked it. And the students seemed engaged and actively participating.
But you sort of need to know how to draw alittle for this lesson.
For my second class, we only covered up to the bedroom, I left the other three rooms for homework.
The Lesson:
It helps to draw on the white-board as you go along.
The lines below are read off.
1. Open your notebooks
2. Draw a small house
3. Draw some flowers around the house.
4. Draw a walking path to the house.
5. Draw the sun over the house.
6. Draw a river near the house.
7. Draw a bridge over the river.
8. Draw a forest, many many trees.
9. Draw a walking path from the house to the forest.
10. Draw yourself in the picture. Where are you?
11. Draw some clouds.
12. Draw 3 birds.
13. Draw a car.
14. Draw someone fishing.
15. Draw a school far far behind the house.
16 Draw some apartment buildings by the school.
Part 2
Okay, new page.
1. Draw an Amercian house. The bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. The kitchen and living room are down stairs.
2. In the bedroom, draw:
a bed
a desk
a chair
a dresser
a clock on the dresser
(elicit more from the class)
3. In the bathroom, draw:
a toilet
a shower
a sink
a mirror above the sink
(elicit more from the class)
4. In the living room, draw:
a sofa
a TV
a small table
a tall lamp nest to the sofa
(elicit more from the class)
5. In the kitchen, draw:
a counter
a sink
a refrigerator
a stove
a toaster

(elicit more from the class) |

No offense, but don't you think the time could better served on speaking, rather than drawing? Sure, they are practicing their listening skills, but that's about it. |

No offense taken. I usually think the same way when I'm planning a lesson. The first time I taught it, I was using it as a filler because that particular class already covered the week's lesson material in a demo class we held. But, my co-teacher requested it and the students really enjoyed it and I really enjoyed seeing the kids happy and shouting out words in excitement and laughing throughout the class.
Share some lessons you've found sucessful, I'll try them out in my class. |

This is a thread worth building. I will add a lesson plan to it after I wake up enough to get the dough rolling.
Bring them on... |
