Hey guys

Just been informed by my recruiter that the two sets of transcipts need to be signed and stamped across the envelope flap. I was previously told that I only needed the stamp - therefore no signatures have been put onto the envelope.

Anyone else have trouble with these? Were they just a scribble or part of a 'I sign here to state no tampering' type thing?

Surely if it's just a signature needed I could get any random person to sign rather than sitting on a train for another 4 hours back to uni.

also - been told today by my recruiter not to send my original degree to Korea, merely a notarised copy as the embassy in London needs this. I thought the embassy took photocopies of both the degree and CRB checks with the visa application?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your university should have some standard for "official" transcripts.. Many places in the States put a stamp or signature on the seal of the envelope which just indicates that the contents have not been tampered with.
My university's official transcripts don't come like that, just a message on the envelope that says "official as long as it's unopened," or something to that extent. I didn't have any problems with the lack of an official signature. I'd just check with your university to see the procedure.

Hey there

My transcripts that I used had an illegible scrawl signed across the seal. I don't know who's name is or what job title they hold.

I'd say you'd get away with getting a friend to sign. Maybe call and ask the university if the inside of the transcripts are signed. If that's the case there is the possibility immigration could check but it's unlikely.

I really think they just want to make sure the contents of the envelope hasn't been tampered with. Just making sure you've actually achived a bona fide degree.

Incidently I did the opposite in relation to your degree. I sent my original degree to Korea and kept photocopies for the Korean embassy.

My original degree has been returned to me.

cheers.

i know the transcripts inside are signed because they originally sent them to me in a plain old envelope without the stamp etc - had to be sent back again.

i always thought the original degree went to korea and a copy would be fine (friend did that in august and was ok). i've emailed the embassy in london to see - i think it's probably a case of the recruiter not wanting to pay for the shipping back to me.

Hi Fezmond do you know that you also need to sort out a residency certificate whilst you are in the UK?

You can find the info for it here

http://groups.google.com/group/epikgangwon/web/tax-information

This was something my recruiter did not tell me about (I dont think they even knew!)

Also ( i am assuming here that you will bring a laptop with you) Scan your passport, Degree, criminal record check ect ect and save it onto your computer.

Also make copies of everything inc your contract and bring one copy of everything with you. Never give this one copy away. If people want it, insist they make a copy of it!

When you arrive you will need to complete the medical examination to be able to get your ARC card. You can set up a bank account with just your passport but i recommend you wait until you have

a. Done the medical test.
b. Got your ARC card

Otherwise there can be problems with paying bills and they will freeze your account until you get it sorted!

Bring at least 500,000 won with you and check the currency exchange rates daily. You will almost certainly have to pre order the won from M&S ect and it normally takes 5 days to come. They do the currency exchange rate when you swap the money not when you order the money so check the exchange rate before you collect!!!!

The won has been jumping around a lot recentally.

Hi,

I've asked this question before but no one seems to know the score. As UK nationals are we exempt from paying tax in our 1st two years? If so, how do we do this - is it possible to get a residence certificate from outside the uk?

Cheers,

Steve.

Ask your Uni for about 4-5 copies of your tanscripts if you plan on staying a few years.
They should have the Uni stamp across the seal, so whoever opens knows they are the first to open the envelope.

Exempt if you're at a public school, not a hagwon.
Didn't have to provide any residency certs here at the 2 public schools I've been at, but I know some people have had sticky admin depts.

Thanks Gazz, however, is the residency certificate only for those people doing EPIK? I am working in a hagwon and will not be exempt from tax I believe.

Anyone else had any problems recently with having to keep your original degree for the visa application in London and sending an apostilled copy to Korea?
