But, what exactly is a release letter? I changed jobs once with a letter recommending me for future ESL employment and th letter said I fulfilled my employment agreement. This happened after I gave notice after 5 months. Isn't this a release? It must be. I got another job a month later. |

A release letter is a letter stating that you have been released from your contract; i.e. you no longer work at the school and it is no longer responsible for you. If any of that is written in a letter of recommendation then you have a letter killing two birds with one stone; a letter releasing you and stating how good you are.
I hope this helps. |

I can't seem to find it myself, sorry, maybe someone else can help but isn't there a sample release letter somewhere on this board or at EFL law? |

A release letter will help calm your next employer's fears that you didn't just quit or were a "bad teacher" at your previous job. It will also confirm to them that you will be released from your previous E2 and become eligible for a new one without any legal wrangles.
However, when applying for new E2 visa, you will still need your previous employer to go to immigration in person, to sign the proper release papers- a handwritten or other note will not be accepted for this. |
