My mate and I were in Popeye's for lunch today. Suddenly, his face turned white. I looked over my shoulder to see what was so shocking.
There was a kid, standing on a table, peeing in to a paper cup. His mum was supporting him while he did it. What makes it especially bad in my opinion is that there was a bathroom just ten meters away.
I have NEVER witnessed such a thing anywhere in the world. The wierd thing is, no one else seemed particularly shocked.
I know that kids often have to GO, and just can't hold it, but there's no excuse for that kind of behaviour when there's a toilet just around the corner. |

That is absolutely ridiculous and thoroughly disgusting. That type of behaviour should not be tolerated in any situation. |

Welcome to Korea.
I've seen it at:
Uniqlo, when there was a washroom right across the hall in Coex.
In a subway station, where the washroom was 20m away.
Um, too many places to count. Nasty. |

I've been here a year and a half and I've only seen a pantless kid once. He was standing at a bus stop and his mother was behind the panel talking on her cell phone.
I guess I'm lucky to have not seen what you've seen |

I saw a kid peeing on the sidewalk, one peeing in a sewer grate, and one peeing on a parked car.
Don't judge them. Raising spoiled male children is cultural. |

I've only seen this outdoors, in parks and such, or outside of stores. |

urinating in public is one thing that toooooo many people overlook and don't do anything about. personally, whenever i see someone (child or adult) I usually say something to either him or if it's a baby, to the mother. just last week i saw a kid, maybe 9 years old pissing on a store window while mom looked on, a middle aged drunk man pissing along the sidewalk, and another ajosshi pissing on the side of my building near the stairway. in each case i told them in korean "what are you doing?" and then add a nice 메스꺼운 사람 ...or 'disgusting person'.
i'm not going to generalize and say it's all koreans since my wife finds it appalling as well, but the problem is that most people don't put them in their place for their inappropriate behaviour. if you see it- i say "CALL THEM OUT!" and put them in their place. |

Reminds me of my time in China, where that was a common sight. What was worse, though, was seeing a kid pull down his pants and do a number 2 on the steps of our English school. I did not envy the janitor that night! It wasn't uncommon to see toddlers taking a dump in the streets in some of the more "colorful" parts of the city. |

What about a homeless-looking woman taking her pants off to pee in a small garden next to a subway station enterance like I saw the other day? Is that a common Korea thing or just a common homeless person thing? |
