On November 1st my I put my guitar into the trunk of a taxi in Hongdae. After I got out in Seollung (Gangnam gu) the taxi driver pulled away without opening it. I have called the police, and a bunch of cab companies but no luck.( I didn't get any plate numbers or cab numbers)

The guitar is a Ivory-pearl (Blizzard) colored American Standard Stratocaster. If you see any of these being sold used online or at a shop give me a shout.
If I get it back based on any tips, I will give you money.

that happened to a friend of mine.

rule of thumb: my a$$ is the first thing in the cab and the last thing out.

Wow, I've always been afraid of that drive off with my shit in the trunk boot business. This almost happened to me a several months ago with luggage when I was on my way to fly out of Seoul for vacation. As the driver was starting to move the car, I yelled and punched the rear of the car to get his attention since I didn't know what to say. He stopped and popped the trunk. I guess talking to remind people of their responsbilities, challenge them at times, and keep them in check is necessary just as you'd do in the West, but most of us don't know much about how to talk to people around here. He just simply forgot, so it goes...

I wouldn't doubt if your driver forgot and then finds an $800 Fender stratocaster guitar he doesn't have a clue who's it is when he helps a lady with her bags or luggage.

Do you know the name or number of the cab company? In korea, there's a chance... If not, then try to talk to all of them even getting a Korean to ask around for you.

Problem with cabs is you have a crapton of just independent cab drivers that don't belong to a company.

Also, there are numerous different cab companies in operation. No one at the call center is going to know if there is a guitar that showed up unclaimed.

I left a guitar in the trunk of a cab back in 1997. I got it back 3 months later. Have a Korean friend call some cab companies and have them put a note up on their bulletine board. Don't forget to tip the cabbie. I'm pulling for you!

I have a funny feeling you're going to get your guitart back. Keep trying.

Also, the serial number.Do you have it? If not, try to trace it through the store you bought it from. If they have a record of the sale, they will have a record of the serial.

Always get your stuff out of the trunk BEFORE paying the taxi driver.

Taxi's are still pretty local, many drivers know each other. Good luck.

Don't get his hopes up too much. It would almost be a miracle if he can find his guitar back. But look on the bright side. At least you didn't leave a $4 million instrument, BORROWED, on a taxi. (See link)

Here's a quite comprehensive list of the phone numbers of taxi companies in Seoul City:

I'd start with the last link first being closer to Kangnam and CBD.

Thanks for your suggestions and stuff.

I have been calling cab companies and last night I went to Nagwon and passed out flyers.

I will do the same at some of the shops around Hongdae.

Anyone know of any other popular guitar shop areas...?
