|

I'm working with a reporter from the JoongAng Daily who told me that immigration will still give you a visa even if you don't have a letter of release. I told him that wasn't true, and he asked me to prove it.
So I'm asking all of you: Have you ever been denied a visa because you had no letter of release? The JoongAng Daily wants to know about it.
Specifically, I'd like to hear from people who have gone to get a new visa and been told "No." You can post here if you want, but the reporter wants to email some people and hear their stories. So PM me with your email address and I'll send it on to him. By the way, the reporter WILL NOT quote you without your permission, and will not use your name without your permission. He can quote you as an anonymous teacher, or even just say "Several teachers reported..." if he hears the same thing from multiple people.
This is a big story that he's working on, so your help is greatly appreciated. |

You do know that being denied a work visa by Immigration means you have to leave the country? The people you are looking for are probably not in Korea because they had to leave. |

Wylies,
I think the OP means people that have been refused a visa in their previous years of work.
(Example - Joe works here now but had this experience back in 2004). |

No, that would be outdated info. They are trying to get people with current denials. Even if people have to leave, maybe there are some people who have a month before they have to leave. If so, then they should get that info out so we can deal with this.
Holding someone to a school to abuse you for a year is not fair to the teachers. I will do anything I can to help rid that shackle from our visa requirements.

Of course I have. And, I have the proof. I filed a complaint at the labor ministry. For that, Immigration sent my hopeful new employer a letter(which I have) stating that they denied my E-2 visa. What more do you want? I have a Korean witness, what more do you want? The thing that is even more interesting is that that wasn't the real reason they denied my visa. The REAL reason they did so was because I was blacklisted. The Immigration man gave my hopeful new employer a print out stating that my former employer had called Immigration and told them that I "ran away and quit my job." For that(a simple phone call to Immigration by my past ROTTEN good for nothing thief/crook/tax evader/fraud/etc...) I couldn't get an E-2 visa. Not only that, but the Immigration "official" said that if I canceled my complaint he would grant/give me an E-2 visa. Yes, that's right. The smuck was negoatiated for the crooked Hagwon Director. I said "no," but went back the next day and told him that if he put that in writing that I would cancel my complaint but he said..."No, you can trust me because I'm an OFFICIAL." Ha ha ha!!!
Needless to say I didn't trust the Immigration "official" smuck. I have his name if you want it?
If Immigration didn't require "WORK RELEASES," this S^^^ wouldn't have happened. |

Come on wylies99, it doesn't require an in-person interview. Anyone can PM the OP with information which doesn't require them to be in Korea. Nonetheless I didn't PM the OP nor am I holding my breath! No Korean newspaper will quote what I have to say. |

It doesn't matter if they are in the country or not. Some might have had the problem in the past and be back. Others might be waiting out right now, and still others might be here on a visa extension while they take it to the labor board (I know this last one isn't real likely, but it is possible).
And Ying, yeah, that information would be helpful too, because it shows that immi is inconsistent.
Anyone else had trouble? Even if you weren't denied a visa, were you told by immi that you would be denied a visa? If so, which immi office? |
