I am trying to teach my students the value of washing their hands with soap.
I am looking for an educational video where the contaminate is glowing and as the people touch it and move around the room, shaking hands and opening doors, the glowing goo spreads around the room.
I've also seen this "effect" in some Hollywood movies but I can't remember which ones.
Can anyone help?
It would be great if I could find some non-toxic chemical to spill on the desk and then half way through class (after a group activity) turn on a dark light and show them how easily it spreads. Then have them wash with just water and come back and show how "dirty" their hands still are.
I'm also thinking about teaching a couple lessons on general health, introducing germs, bacteria, viruses, and methods of transmission (air born, fluid born). Then the life span of viruses outside the body and the formation of bacterial spores and how long they can last.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I've seen this type of lesson done using glitter. You can show how easily it gets everywhere and if you try to wash your hands, you get most of it off but there is still a bit left. But beware, glitter is a cruel mistress. |
