I might want to get out on some trails and wondering how expensive it would be to get a decent bike in Seoul and where to go?

Mountain biking in this country is stupidely expensive. You have to pay over the odds for a foreign style mountain bike and then the gear. There are some trails and it is worth the effort if you miss it but I would wait till returning back home.

Agreed. The biking here is great and the weather this fall has been amazing.

I've had friends pay anywhere from 450k - 950k for a top of the line mountain bike... Not sure about the lower side of things

if you feel the need to get a big american brand, then yeah expect to pay big bucks.

that said, you can get scotts, giants and meridas here at a good price. my '09 scott scale 40 which retails for $2200 in the states only costs W1,750,000 here and that's a world class aluminium hard tail.

at least where i live, the local trails are much more hiker-oriented so i tend to deal with lots of roots, rocks, and tons of hike a bike but it's all made up by the incredibly hairy downhill descents. you can get by with a hard tail just fine - it certainly makes the climbing easier (something you seem to do a lot here). a full bouncy will make the downhills much much more doable but you lose out on climbing ability, also, cost is nearly doubled for equal quality.

i ride out in the namyangju/guri area but intend to ride with the mtbk group when my saturday english camps end. they're much more experienced riders with better knowledge of the good trails.
