Hello all

I was just wondering about the amount of couples teaching in Korea who have children? This maybe a broad scoped question, but I'm just curious.....My wife and I both have worked in Korea before and are expecting a baby soon........We are just looking for information on the feasibility of coming back to the hermit kingdom with a little one in tow.
Anyones insights on this topic would really be appreciated......

Thanks everyone

I am assuming you and your wife are both native speakers?

My wife is Korean, so it is probably a different situation, but who will look after your kid if you come back? ATM my wife cares for our child and I work.

Some people use day care, but if you are not Korean, do you want your new baby being cared for "Korean style" and learning Korean (as that is what the adjuma will be speaking to your baby all day)?

If you don't intend for your wife to work, they can get dependent visas. The thing is having your employer hire you knowing you got a family. A lot of employers love that fact - it means you won't ditch on them.

Anyways, how about some more specific questions?

I know one mixed couple that hired a Filipino lady to take care of the kid during the day because the Mother (canadian) couldn't speak Korean well enough to understand what any Korean would say. And since she has the cushy university job she is home more than her husband and needs to do more talking with the her.

You could find a Korean to help you find a Filipino.

Are there any Filipinas in Korea legally? Is it possible? Or would you be in the same old "Nannygate" position you would be in the US? What happens when Korean immigration busts a Filipina nanny?

I know you can get a live-in nanny/housekeeper for 800,000 won a month plus room and board.
