For a newb, it seems like you've gotta do your time or take your chances with a not so great school or chain before you can really get the good jobs. Is this true? What can a newb really expect fresh off the boat with no experience? With more than 4 recruiters I have been offered all the greats like YBM, LCI Kids Club, Kids College, Avalon, POLY, and with the amount of posts on all of these outstanding institutions, it just seems like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet.

What do you think?

If you can afford it, take a trip to Korea to look for a job. You'll have a much better chance of finding something to your liking.

Just remember that after you find a job, you'll still need to go back to your country to get the visa and have a consular interview.

BS - If you do not have a black mark with immigration YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY FOR AN INTERVIEW.

Really? I know this has always been the rule for current & previous visa holders. But when did they stop requiring interviews for newcomers?

The interview is not required for a first time E-2 if they get their degree verified by KCUE. The employer must initiate this process. I had my first E-2 issued in Bangkok in September.

What do I think? Hmmm. That's a tough one. Let's see:

1. No one quits a truly great job. No one sensible, anyway.

2. Great jobs are hard to find, as per #1 above.

3. Everyone quits a crappy job, sooner or later. Again, anyone sensible, anyway.

4. Adverts on places like Dave's are the primary resource used to fill positions.

Now. Given all these, make the leap and tell me if these jobs you're speaking of are truly 'great'.

Replace a quitter today, BE a quitter tomorrow.

To complete the list a bit above

For good jobs, people tend to look for people with good resumes

So get yourself some content to your resume.

True enough, but some people quit Korea.

Very true, Kim. Especially now that the won has sunk to a level that makes staying around almost not worth it, not to mention the worsening global recession makes me think it's time to roll out of here.

I'd probably go another year here if the economy in the US weren't tanking. But with the coming layoffs there, the wave will hit here for sure. And before the hordes of unemployed college grads arrive here looking to compete with me come next job change for jobs that may pay only 1500 USD, now is a great time to head out, go to another job, and get locked into a contract for a year or so. It's only going to get tougher to find another job in the months ahead. Staying around to make a completion bonus may end up costing me much more than the bonus itself. I imagine a lot of folks are thinking this. I'll be seeing some of you at the airport soon enough. I'll probably be heading to Europe or the Middle East.

Alright. Time to get serious about finding another job.

Yeah, it was a poster being facetious. But my post targets those OTHER teachers who may be thinking of going to the mentioned stellar positions.

Implied: Four busy-body recruiters mean bunches of naive new hires in need of some honest advice.
