I'm considering going to Jeju to teach. I was in Kangnam Seoul, and was wondering if anyone who know about Jeju could tell me about prices, and what's a good salary.

Thanks

What kind of job? Hagwon? Unigwon? University?

I can't see working there, but to each their own. I'd rather just fly down for a long weekend.

Guess the search function works, albeit it is a bit slow.

I'm working in Jeju and it's great. The people are more laid back and the people are generally more used to seeing foreigners than some rural places on the mainland. Most people will bash Jeju on this forum because they all prefer the night life, stench, and pollution of Seoul. If you're a laid back person who enjoys strolls on the beach, beautiful scenery, hiking, water sports, clean air, etc., then you'll like Jeju. But if you need to be constantly entertained and be in the company of other rowdy people, then Jeju is not the place for you. It also greatly depends where you will live in Jeju.

I'd also advise against getting sucked into the foreigner crowds.

Yeah, mandarin oranges. You can pick your own if you like.

The only thing I don't like about it here so far are the mosquitoes. They're ravenous. And I heard they're year round... At least that's what a native told me...

I saw a huge spider who decided to construct it's web in the middle of a passageway. I didn't see it until I passed by it. Luckily, I didn't run into the web. I used to hate walking into spider webs back home.

As far as my apartment goes, I get the occasional mosquito or little fly, but nothing too serious. I don't have to put a net around my bed or nothing. But, if you don't have screens in your windows, good luck.

I like Jeju.

However, if you live out in the sticks, beware of the occasional giant attack spiders. Sometimes one volunteers for a reconnaissance mission to see if there are some tasty morsels scurrying around your house.

They are big, and fast, and hard to catch (don't like to kill useful critters, so I let them go outside).

Are there many large spiders in Seoul?

Is there an Emart and Homeplus on Jeju? It seems it would be a compact convenient island to live on, but it's also easy to get to Seoul by plane should you want to go shopping for oatmeal and ivory soap. I've yet to go.

What's wrong with the foreigners in Jeju? I was just there for 5 days during my Chuseok vacation. The foreigners there seemed perfectly normal and well adjusted.
