Our vacation starts on the 26th of December. The school owes me a two week holiday with a ticket and 7 more days on top of that.

The problem is they say they won't tell me when I can take it until next month. How long in advance do you need to book tickets? I thought I would need to get my ticket this week?

He should worry because the school is only going to reimburse an economy ticket and those sell out fast for the days he wants.

OP, my travel agent said I will need to pay by the third week of Nov for the tickets I reserved. You can reserve now, but you will need to know for certain very soon.

I would suggest telling them that you must have the dates by next Friday in order to ensure that you can buy a ticket for the whole trip. Explain that if they wait too long, you might not be able to get a ticket for the dates they choose and then they will have to change them. If they refuse, go further up the chain. Even when you are being reimbursed, waiting to get a ticket home can sometimes be a bad choice. Worst case, make up some excuse about how you need to give notice to your family so they can request vacation days to spend with you during your visit. Sometimes family makes a difference for Koreans.

yeah OP - I've been checking dates and flights myself for Dec-Jan

start doing that and see where you want to go, the prices, etc.

write down the dates you expect to go, tell them you are making reservations and ask what is easier for them - do they want you to buy the tkt and they reimburse or what?

just be more pro-active - keep them informed - as the other poster said, they will most likely just be reimbursing you anyway.

if you use a K travel agent, then you can always set everything up and send them the details and they can verify it.

but definitely get on it - you don't want to get screwed out of your vaca but not being able to get a tkt!
