So, I'm going home for a week for Thanksgiving and today my brother shot me an email saying he wants me to buy him a macbook over here.
I told him that with the exchange rate he might break even because apple products seem to be more expensive here. That managed to open his mind to other laptop possibilities. Can anyone give a recommendation for a laptop?
The only caveat is that the processing power and graphics card must be capable of handling his software design work. |

IF you are going to the states, get it there.
Any laptop choice will be 10-40% CHEAPER if bought in the states - prices here are adjusted for the exchange rate so they are now even MORE expensive than they were in Sept.

I would advise against this idea. One....it isn't going to be that much cheaper here. There is a bigger issue though...service warranties. I had to get my HP (bought in the US) repaired in Korea and the first time everything worked out. Now, I have a new problem and after looking around I have found out my laptop has been recalled in order to replace the mother board. The only way this can be done is in the region of purchase. In other words, I now have to pay the expense of shipping my laptop to the US.
Imagine your brother having to ship his laptop back to Korea for a recall. How would he even know it was being recalled? All the recall information would be on a website in Korean. The money saved just isn't worth the risk in my eyes. And, considering how cheap computers are in the US I doubt he is going to save much of anything on the deal/

It's no contest. The US will have better prices and selection. |
