Does a visa exist for "part time editing consultant"?

I know "consulting" and "part time" have been done to death, but none of the threads seem to apply to both together (with no pre-existing visa).

I am in Korea on a Tourist visa to study Korean language. I study 2 months, take a trip, come back and study 2 more months. Everything is on the up and up. My school semesters are less than 3 months long, so I don't have an education visa.

I discussed with a local department the possibility of doing editing consultant for 16 hours a week. It sounds good for me since I could keep studying while working part time. Right now neither me nor them (I'm assuming) know anything about the visa status for something like this. Does a visa even exist for "part time editing consultant"?

Is there any way to make it possible to be here working part time legally, without being on another visa such as spouse visa or education visa?

IF your department is "allowed to" AND "willing to" be your sponsor at immigration you can get either a C4 (short term work visa <90 days) or E7 (more than 90 days).

You (your employer) will have to show that you are qualified for the job (bachelors degree or higher) and that no Korean could do the job.

Why don't you look into getting a student visa. Someone told me, haven't verified for myself, that a student visa allows you to work part-time.

Good Luck

You can work part-time (up to 20 hours a week) on a D-2 (or whatever the regular student visa is) but not on the D-4 (the language student visa). Don't know about the part-time consulting visa question, but I do know E-7s can be a little hard to get at times and that not all consulting companies are eligible to sponsor visas (full-time or part-time), or rather, I know that some have not been allowed to do so in the past simply because they did not fit into Immigration's classification system for visas well enough - or some BS like that.

Thanks for the information. This consulting work is still in discussion phase. I am really glad to have this E7 visa information, so I can bring it up when the time comes.
Thanks,
Andrew
