My Korean friend just got hired at a hagwon for 2.2 million per month. I'm very happy for her, but seeing as this is about 800,000 per month more than someone like her would have been hired at 6 years ago, it's sort of proof that our wages aren't going up enough.
She has no university education, btw... but speaks English well. |

Well, Korean workers in hagwons have been ridiciously underpaid in the past. She won't recieve the same benefits as a NT such as housing and airfare (and the additional cost of recruitment is saved from the haggies point of view). Not to mention, fluent korean is a useful skill, and from what I've seen in Hagwons she'll be worked into the ground.
But good for her |

The problem she has is that no school ever wants to report her tax. She was denied a USA visa because she can't show that she has a job. This is because her hagwon bosses always do this. Now there is the USA visa program, but because she has been denied in the past, and has no record of her previous job, she'll probably be denied again. |

She might get 2.2mil but she wont have the Western hours and "perks" if you want to call them that. So unfair about the visa too. Maybe she should try another country that would take her. |
