Edison didn't really invent the lightbulb. He just ripped it off of better inventors, like he did with most of his "inventions" and took credit for it. Seriously, we'd probably be living on the moon by now if it weren't for that creep. |

Agricultural Revolution freed us from hunting and let us grow to more than 6 billion.
Writing/Printing Press/Computers freed us from relying on human memory.
The Black Death may have killed 1/3 of us. What discoveries, what achievements, did we lose because of that (and the other plagues that used to kill so many)?
The Light Bulb (and electronics in general) freed us from relying on muscle power and going to bed with the chickens.
Flight (1903) led to landing on the moon in July 1969 and opened the universe to us. 66 years. Awesome. |

if you love the world we live in then you gotta see the wisdom of events having happened just the way they have, however terrible they may seem with a myopic glance...
"greatest" moments:
(1) - sometime 23,000 years ago Qi broke up his father's dynasty-forming merit based system of determining who ascends to the throne and instead followed the later Kim Jong Il approach of making himself the leader, setting a long tradition of hereditary ascendency to the throne of the thereafter perpetually oppressive dynasties of what has come to be known as China.
(2) - in 186 the Roman army killed the emperor (beginning a practice which continued and contributed a lot to the fall of the Roman Empire)
(3) - in 1476 Leonardo da Vinci was acquitted of sodomy and allowed to continue his works
(4) - the German invasion of France in 1870 (seeting the stage for WWI & WWII & thus U.N. human rights)
(5) - the first atomic blast on July 16, 1945 in New Mexico (framing the cold war instead of a WWIII) |

Making the wheel, fire, and clothing were all good ideas. I guess the beginning of the universe might be counted as well. And let's not forget decent beer. |
