Short of proxying through the U.S., is there a way to get the American/English version of websites? For example, to type in google.com and not be redirected to google.co.kr? Or get search results from a Firefox search bar in Korean?

I know I can get to google.com, I mean to set it up so that when I do a search in Chrome or from the Firefox toolbar, the results come back in English. Better yet, something through the browser so that sites like youtube and skype come up with the English version instead of automatically redirecting to the Korean version.

Surely there must be a way to do this. Anyone?

In Firefox, you could try this: Tools Options Content Languages.
For search engines, you'll probably have to do each one.

I was getting frustrated with this problem recently too, so I put together something that will add an ncr search to my Firefox search box. Just go to this page:

http://suhock.net/google-ncr.html

and add the search box. Be sure to select "Google (ncr)" as your search engine from the search box list.

HI there,

This is a common problem for foreigners in Korea, so I wrote out a short guide on how to put Google, YouTube, and the Firefox Google search box in English on any computer... all permanently.

Here's the link: http://www.dmitryvolokhov.com/2008/10/02/no-country-redirect/

Happy English browsing!

Setting my homepage to http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=eN has made searching easier. (I don't like extra toolbars because they eat up valuable desktop real estate.)

Hey thanks! I've been wondering about that for a while and that fix is awesome. Good stuff!
