What is better? SKIING or SNOWBOARDING?

Particularly if you've never done either.

They're different. I found skiing easier to learn yet much harder to be comfitable in skiing difficult areas, while I found snowboarding was harder to learn the basics yet easier to be comfitable in boarding difficult areas. That was a mouthful and badly put but hopefully Understandable.

Some people like boarding others like skiing. I have done both, skiing since I was 6 and boarding mid 20s (28 now). I prefer skiing but in bad conditions or bad slopes I will board.

If you think you would like doing tricks, then boarding would probably be best, if you like speed, skiings probably your best bet.

If you are trying for the first time then, on a board you will spend the first day on your arse, with skis probably half a day with skis crossed. Take your pick.

If you are going for a day choose skiing. If you are going for 3-7 days choose a board. If you want to take it up for the future, choose which style you want

Well, I ski averagely to well and vastly prefer that. Snowboarding is very claustrophobic because you can't move your legs.

Also, snowboarders are the most annoying freaking people alive with their constant falling over.

Why not do both?

One thing that sucks for snowboarders is that you constantly have to strap in and out of your boots. I ski, my gf snowboards, and every time we get off the chairlift, I gotta wait around 5-10 minutes for her to strap in.


If you are only going to the slopes once or twice a year, try skiing. If you can see your self going multiple times, for days at a time, take up snowboarding.

I liked boarding better than skiing. To ME it felt easier on my knees and back. Plus I have seen more knee injuries from skiing. But hey all of our experiences are different.

And if anyone might be interested a buddy of mine is mostly likely going to sell his board and bindings soon. He is flying back to the states in a couple of weeks so it might hit the for sell block soon.

If I had to start over, I'd still choose skiing. It's just easier to learn, and because my legs are free I always feel safer. I taught my wife skiing a couple years ago from scratch, and after a few runs she was able to do it. In contrast, by the end of your first day snowboarding you'll be sore from falling down a lot, and you still won't have mastered the beginner hill.

I grew up skiing and spent about 12 years on a snowboard...I moves to BC and bought a pair of fat skis and never looked back.

I have always thought that beginner snowboarders can become intermediate and even advanced in a dedicated season (depending on your ability of course). Learning to snowboard POUNDS on your body, but once you start linking turns the learning curve is pretty quick.

Generally, beginner skiers can get around a mountain after a short while and if you were going on a short ski holiday somewhere, skiing definitly is easier on the bones. The thing about skiing is you can pick it up quickly, but suck forever.... Skiing well takes time (like maybe developing a good golf swing?) and dedication. There is always more technical BS to learn....

I have left snowboarding behind, I miss it sometimes....but I dream of skiing everyday!
