So i went to the biggest SHOW store (there were like 5 next to each other rofl) and the guy there told me i need to have a Korean Credit Card, even though i showed him my Woori VISA Check Card. My friends are telling me that's not true and that the guy must have not known what he was doing...which is entirely possible because he asked for my passport and when i showed him the ARC he didn't know what it was and had to ask his manager.
What gives? Do i need to go try to get a Korean Credit Card now? Or did i not get the VISA check card like i thought from Woori? (it does has the VISA mark on the card). |

| Go to LG Telecom. You only need your ARC and bank book. They will also send your bills in English. |

There are no good touchscreen phones in Korea. They range from unresponsive, to overly sensitive, to the software freezing, to being completely un-intuitive. I sold mine a week after I bought it and went back to a regular slide phone. |

You're lucky. The SHOW that I went to bluntly told me "no foreigners!"
I marched straight to the nearest LG. |

If you are in Seoul there was a shop in Itaewon on the left of the bottom of hooker hill connecting foreigners to SHOW with an alien card and bank passbook. That is where I got my SHOW phone but that was 14 months ago.
I am holding out for an iPhone from SHOW which may be December 1st (but probably not).
A check card is not a credit card. If you want a Korean credit card Samsung Card will issue credit cards to some foreigners but if you work in a mum and pop hagwon you will need to get a secured card. I think WOORI will do this, and KEB definately will although I hate them due to the whole International card lie they maintain. |

Yeah i confirmed you need a credit card to get a phone+contract with SHOW. I will probably look into getting a secured card from Woori since i have my bank account with them...i've heard about the Samsung card but does anyone know the requirements? My Hagwon is definitely not a mom & pop shop but is there a minimum number of pay stubs you have to show?
iPhone is delayed indefinitely in Korea. Apple refuses to alter the iPhone to fit Wi-Bro and Korean standards, as well as they shouldn't have to. So i decided the next best thing is the Haptic 2. Oh, and for those that are looking at that, with a 2 year agreement (new contract), they priced it at 599,000 for 24 months. Unfortunately LG Telecom doesn't have the Haptic 2. |

Haptic is the biggest waste of space. The entire phone is bogged down with flashware.
Korea needs the Iphone .. that's not going to happen as Korea is protectionist with EVERYTHING. |

you will be better off having a korean put it under their name..
its hit or miss with phone shops, some will sell to foreigners some wont..
you dont need a credit card!
you do need to show your arc!
if you really want your phone in your name, then keep knocking on doors
take a korean co worker with you to explain you have a job etc....
over the 10 years Ive been here, Ive seen some foreigners have no luck, while others have had luck.. all depends on which store owner you get!
remember they make their living on residuals so a lot of them will sign anyone...
try another 5 shops...
itaewon or yongsan ( emm maybe not, to many foreigners skip out on paying their last months bill you see) so thats why foreigners have it hard here.. |
