Am I having a (second) mind-cramp here?
A month or so ago I got a single re-entry permit stamp in my passport which reads:
"Good for single re-entry into the Republic of Korea until 2008.APR.12
Date of Issue: 2008.SEP.29"
I should have checked this more carefully when I got the stamp. (That was my first mind-cramp.) Shouldn't the 'until' date read 2009.APR.12? |

Yup.
Go back to Immigration and (try) to have it fixed. Worst case scenario - you will have to pay W30,000 for another re-entry stamp.
Worst, worst case scenario - you do nothing, leave the country and come back... at which time you are taken aside by Immigration at the airport, interrogated and admitted on a tourist visa. Of course, this means you will have to do a visa run... back to your country... because you have a 'black mark' in your Immigration file. |

Perhaps it's a 9 and the ink is somewhat smeared to make it look like an 8? |

I love cases like this. If you have paperwork showing 2009, then you could just laugh in their face when you try re-entering. Make sure you have the paperwork EVERY TIME you need to present your visa.
Worst case scenario, they let you go without incident and don't expose their incompetence. |

I don't think that laughing in an Immi officer's face is good advice. The OP is 'playing' with a mindless beauracracy that has the power to make life difficult.
My advice is get it fixed before you leave. Don't take any chances. If it costs you another W30,000, consider it an inexpensive lesson on the need to 'double check'. |

Hopefully, the OP won't have to pay again. However, in a "worst, worst" case scenario, W30,000 is a hell of a lot less than the (aprox.) W3,000,000 it will cost to do a visa run back to the home country.

better than the other options.... or perhaps least worst would be more apt.

As I understand it, you can get these multiple re-entry permits at the airport. So, even if you only have a single entry visa, you can deal with it then. Why on earth do we want to pay double at immigration for their mistakes?
Let's raise taxes too while we are at it. |

One can't get a multiple re-entry stamp at the airport - only a 'single'. |

They aren't geting a multiple entry stamp. The cost would have been 50,000 won. |

Duh... you're the one who first used the term multiple re-entry -

Yes, and that is the point. You DON'T need to go to immigration for the visa this person wants. |

True... but I think it's more likely they will get it fixed gratis if they go back to the Immi office that made the mistake in the first place.
ICN Immi once tried to fine me for an 'overstay' when I had extended my visa online. After being denied a boarding pass, the officer at Immigration Affairs tried to tell me it was impossible to extend online (while holding in his hand the physical, paper print-out, email confirmation from K-Immi). It took two hours to get my boarding pass; then, the officer who actually processed me out of the country tried to send me back to Immigration Affairs (again).
God only knows what an Immi officer would do when presented with a passport containing conflicting dates on a re-entry stamp. |

This person went to immigration too many times. So, to be safe, I would get a Korean friend to call them. Find out if they will do anything once you get there. If they will change at no cost, then of course, I would go. Get their name and when they work at the office so you can talk to them directly if things go wrong.
However, if they tell you that you have to pay another 30,000 won (over the phone), find out if you can just buy a new one at the airport. I would avoid going to immigration unless you really need to. |
