What prompted you as an individual to chose to do this profession long term ?
What aspects came into play in making the decision ?
Was the decision fairly easy or did you have quite a bit of difficulty in making it final ?
How many of you know someone or made the choice yourself to become long term before you even made the move ?
Was the majority of your decision based upon your liking of the country and people, more of a monetary choice or you just learned to love it the longer you were working abroad ?
*** Just a heads up = No, I am not asking this to "get you guys to do my research or homework" or anything of the sort. I simply am thinking about the possibility of teaching abroad and want to get as much info as possible. Answer if you like, please. |

Well, I'll give it a try.

Finding employment outside of teaching.

Wife, home, friends, and abundance of activities to do.

It's always easier to stay than to move to another country.

You mean before the first one-year contract was up? I was open to the idea.

I wouldn't say it's so much a liking of the country and people, but more of a disturbed fascination. |

Money and freedom

I was resistant at first, but it outweighed the alternatives

I got my degree from the College of Education because it allowed me to practice my profession pretty much anywhere.

It's a job I understand how to do, I have a skill people want, and I make that skill available to them at the price they're willing to pay.

I don't see any reason to leave at this point. It's unwise and illogical to move your feet unless you have someplace else to go.

A job is a job and a site is a site. This could be Rotterdam or anywhere.

Yeesh, I don't think about it that much. I just work here. |

I didn't. It chose me.
I was nine months into what was supposed to be a single year overseas when I realized I was not at all ready to give up the pleasure of doing what I was doing.
After six years I still am not choosing to do it long term. The passion is still there though. When that stops... |
