It is quite understandable in a political forum that there will be some ad-hominem attacks. We understand that. We cannot and will not intervene every time someone is slighted. It's a tall order. However, if someone uses profanity and appears to be quite abusive, and you want to bright that to our attention. Just do not inundate with reports. Also, we know there are different groups out there, people who have things in common. Some want to be petty and get others banned. Just be careful with that, because you don't want to make the board boring by trying to muzzle people. We are not the playground police. If someone has that idea, get that out of your head. We have many things to do.

We don't mind your feedback..... Please, do play as nice as you can.
Go easy on the personal attacks. Tone them down.

Very well. It's your board; do as you wish.
However, attacks against anyone or any organization not aligned with this board (ex. celebrities, the GOP) are still 'fair game', right?

Enrico:

I appreciate your tone and concern and concur.

I find it amazing and, frankly, a bit pathetic at times that anyone would take such offense to most of what is posted here that they would feel the need to silence their critics. For many it is a not a last but first resort to complain, especially when they can't mount a defense of their positions in response to their critics, real and imagined.

This doesn't mean to say that I condone excesive use of foul language or vicious personal attacks but then those have been few and far between on the CE Forum. I can count on one hand the number of regular posters to this forum who I thought were over the top, and my list probably would be the same as most other regular posters.

We all know that some posters have been banned who kept things lively, were exceptionally well informed, but whose gravest error was failure to toe the party line of a particular poster who whined about them.

I've also heard rumors that some MODs arbitrarily ban posters without conferring with other MODs. I hope that is only hearsay, though.

I must admit that this board has become, shall we say, "blander" than before. (I recently started a thread on that very subject). It also seems to have more than its fair share of left-leaning posters, although in fairness to the MODs that might be more indicative of their larger numbers among the FTs in Korea.

Of course, I don't believe the MODs have an obligation to keep a balance to the points of view expressed here. But then neither do I think the MODs need to act on every petty gripe, as you have just stated yourself.

If someone wants to call me an idiot or a moron, a fascist, a chump, a capitalist running dog, or a brainless wonder, I am no worse for the wear. I just consider the source and move on--or retaliate in kind if I'm so inclined and too lazy to rebut with scathing argumentation. Satire and even sarcasm can be healthy if not also humorous at times. But on this forum of all forums one would expect regular posters to be thick-skinned and over the course of months likely to step over the line a little. That too is to be expected, I believe.

One, a single moderator has no authority to simply ban someone without conferring.

That's a rumor. As far as posters being banned on any of the forums, it's after conferring, and you have to really violate the TOS
to get banned.

It's normal to criticize each other on this forum, and it's normal to be thick skinned, but one should be generally civil and not get overly personal. That still stands.

One shouldn't be abusive. It doesn't mean we can or will police every instance when someone engages in such behavior, and that sending us 100 reports will do that.

We do not favor GOP posters over Democratic posters or vice versa. We don't care about that.

Our purpose is to encourage some civil debate on the forums and having things moving along smoothly and ensuring that the TOS is generally adhered to. We do try to be fair and look at the facts.

Enrico:

Thanks for the clarifications. I hope your response will dispell some of these rumors although I must tell you that I know for certain that at least two regular posters were banned without prior warning.

That said, the stance you're taking seems quite sensible and therefore reasonable to me. And I say this as one who is not the obsequious type.

Regards.

Thank you, the mod team, strives to be judicious, sensible, and to have the TOS generally followed. As far as the two cases you mentioned, everyone (except in emergency cases) has received at least one warning at some point before being banned. It could happen where someone who is engaging in extreme bigotry or has posted pornography may not receive a warning. They are in the minority. If your two examples don't fall under that category, then they were given warnings at some point before being banned. We cannot go into the specifics about different posters, but we do give warnings, and we do try to be fair, but we must uphold the TOS.

Thank you for your kind words.... And, everyone, please do try to be as fair as you can without making the board boring.

Enrico, what about banning those socks who come on here as one person and are actually another? I'm giving a big clue.

Actually, I don't think they should be banned but "declared" -- that would be better for the community.

I agree, ddeubel. Perhaps you could come out of the closet--er--sock drawer--and reveal yourself. For some inexplicable reason, the usernames "keane" and "EFLTrainer" come to mind at this very moment.

Or, you could take the high road for a change, and refrain from the constant whining and snitching to the MODs as we have just been criticizing on this thread. Now there's a thought. Idea

Stevie,

Just goes to show how much you have your head stuck in the ground..LOL!

I'm the most public member here, nothing secret and that's my style and of course you know that. Stop deflecting! Your a sock that parades spite and vile and nothing of intelligence....you can only rmemember left and right and nothing much more (beyond old stories.).

I suggest in stead of calling one of the few honest members, "a sock", you look into the mirror. You'll see the truth....

ddeubel:

Your level of maturity leaves much to be desired. But at least it's consistent with your lack of maturity in judgment.

Carry on, resident court jester.

P.S.
As per your signature, nothing like a little self-promotion, eh?

And you provide some excellent resources. While the supposed PhDs act like 5th graders. No wonder they run and hide from their own words.

A PhD means nothing nowadays. All you need is money and the ability to read and spit out what professors like to hear (well, same for all levels of education). Someone can be extremely well read and sound smart, but be a complete moron with a lot of books handy.

That is not to say PhDs are bad and can make a big difference to someone with the ability to use one and not just quote it verbatim.
