I've seen a few places offering a 4-day work week, making every weekend a 3-day weekend...

Would you do this? With an obvious cut in salary, how much pay would you want for this kind of gig?

Depends on how many classes (and how many students) you teach a week. If it were six classes a day, I wouldn't consider a salary cut. You also have to keep in mind what kind of schedule you have. Split shift is more.

In 2006 I accepted my presnt job because it was Monday to Thursday only, every Friday and weekend off, for 2.3 mill and a big two-bedroom apartment to myself, working 18-22 hours a week at the hagwon classes no earlier than 2pm and ending no later than 730pm

In 2007 I re-signed for a second year because it was so SWEET! I absolutely loved the 3-day weekends, it works out to half the week off work! i had tons of energy and did lots of travelling

but last summer, not long after that re-signing a teacher left and they said they needed me to work fridays, they paying a mere 0.2 mill more a month (2.5 now) to work M-Fs... stupid me accepted because everything was going sweet, not realizing how much i'd miss having fridays off, travelling alot less that second year here, ... but i commited myself to choosing to make fridays game day in my classes no tests, no books, just games,... though i put a lot of effort to designing them from review material and often they've thinly veiled speaking or writing exercises, but there's always a winning team and losing team and candy or fruit or something... always enjoy fridays myself and them

i am halfway through my third year here and will only re-sign if i can get the conditions of my first year back: no fridays, every weekend a 3-day break!

(the only reason the hagwon offered it in the first place was their recruiter said they'd have better luck attracting an educated (CELTA or the like), experienced teacher to the rural town, something they wanted because of their bad experience with a previous teacher)

i work four days a week at an after school prog in yongsan. the hours are 1-5 two days and 150-525 the other two days. working hours about 15 a week concurrently. for this i make 2.2.

the money is a bit less than most places offer these days. but i have a lot of free time which i use to work at publishing company and teach pvts.

luckily despite the extra work i've still managed to keep my long weekend free of most work, with the exception of the ocassional editing or writing work.

let me tell you.... it's fantastic.

Does that after school program offer housing with the 2.2? If so, sounds great for Seoul. If not, then sounds similar to the place I'm eyeing.

I have that going on here in Japan and I love it. I teach inside a large engineering company Mon-Thurs, and I couldnt be happier. The days are long though, I have to be on site from 8am to 7pm but I only have to teach 6 hours of that. For this I'm getting 400,000 yen per month, basically about 4,000$ per month. I can't say I see myself leaving anytime soon.
