My contract ends on March 2nd. If my last day in class is before that, will the people at the airport give me $h1t for leaving a couple of days early? I've been told that if you leave before your contract is up they hold you for questioning, so you have to shell out another $1000 for a second plane ticket.

On the other hand, if my boss lets me stay in my apartment, can I stay a few days after March 2nd, or will the cops come get me?

I ask because I want to schedule an interview for the day I return home, and I need to know how flexible my date of departure will be.

The immigration officer at the airport doesn't know or care about the last day of your contract. All that matters is the expiration date of your status of sojourn, which appears on your ARC.

If you're leaving BEFORE or ON the expiry date on your ARC, no problem. Tell the officer you're not coming back, he/she will keep your ARC, write "USED" on the visa in your passport, and wish you a pleasant journey.

If you're leaving AFTER the expiry date on your ARC, you MUST obtain an extension from immigration prior to the expiry date. There are numerous threads detailing how to do this. If you fail to get the extension, you WILL be hassled at the airport, you MAY have to pay a 100,000 won fine, you MAY miss your flight, and you WILL receive a "black mark" on your immigration file that will complicate future visa applications.
