...RAPPING.

I was just watching a Korean Rap Video Montage and I threw up a little.

It's so sad to see your young people posing as 'hard core' and riffing eighties dance moves like you just learned them yesterday. It really makes me sick. Truthfully, not many can survive in the native game and in RAP's native language, why even TRY it in yours? It's sooooo contrived, so artificial, and so hard to watch, let alone listen to. It's like if Americans took to making Peruvian Pan Flute Music.
Take a lesson from RAIN and quit it while the hour still strikes twelve. Your rap game is about to turn into a "funkin" and it STINKS.... bad. I beg you!!!! It's better to know you suck here and now and save face than to have the world tell you that you suck and learn it later. In the interest of time and your feelings... PLEASE STOP STOP STOP!!!!

By far, the worst offender in the bunch.

Pay close attention to his "black friends" trying their hardest not to laugh at him.

However, these guys kick ass. The video is a pretty bad match for the song, but it's a cool track. I could see Red and Meth slaying this beat.

You must have seen the "Fly Boy" vid... a little piece of me died from laughter. It's a korean boy in the "ghetto" with a whole bunch of black people trying to "pump" it up.

ahhahaa....

Although back in the day around 2000 I liked the rap they had. It was still poser but it sounded good. Like in that SES video "twilight zone" (really old school korean video) theres a guy who raps in it for like 10 seconds. It's not hardcore rapping, it's like what yubin does with the wondergirl: decent, not the crap they have now... it's like they devolved.

I used to think that the blonde knobcheese *beep* No Hong Chul was the most irritating waste of breath this country had to offer.
That was before Crown J. Absolutely un-effing-believable.

The sad thing is that he doesn't realize that even Koreans know better than to buy into that BS.

Anyone who is anyone in hip hop quit that kind of "bling bling" stuff years ago.

He's simply riding the coattails of his "We Got Married" costar and cashing in while he can.

So if you're not black, grew up in the hood, you're not allowed to rap? WOW. All the world take notice!

Also, DT has been around for a long time and has gotten a lot of props and respect from rappers in the US and Tiger JK grew up in LA. Do NOT diss DT. Besides, there's not many Korean groups that are doing RAP so much as they are doing hip hop or a fusion of hip hop/club/dance (ala Big Bang, Mighty Mouth, Dynamic Duo, Epik High, MC Mong) which is the kind that is much more popular than straight up rap. In fact this kind of fusion between dance+hip hop is uniquely Korean.

I DO think there are some bad posers though, 1TYM has been guilty of doing a few of those bad thuggy, wannabehard ghetto rap videos.

while watching some god-awful k-rap on tv the other night, i think i heard some n word-ing. could it be?

ever listen to italian rappers like 99 posse? they do something with in it a way that i can't imagine the koreans even approaching. ozamotli from LA?

just 2 of billions of examples of how you don't have to be yank or black, but it takes more than a sideways cap.

You have got to be kidding me. This dance/hiphop fusion goes waaaaaaay back.

C & C Music Factory?
Hammer?
Salt N' Pepa?
Technotronik?

The list goes on...to say that's "uniquely Korean" is quite a stretch.

The Mong/Dynamic Duo thing doesn't bother me. Those guys are having fun with their music. It's when rich gyopos from the American suburbs try to pass themselves off as "ghetto" or "thuggish" here when they know they'd get stomped for it, or at least laughed off the block back home.

No, it is not uniquely Korean. It goes WAY back. Plus, There has been a fusion of hip hop/rapping in practically EVERY genre of dance for some time now. Originally, Hip hop/rap started in the USA, and most genres of dance music started in the UK (also France, Germany, and Italy). How can you claim anything like that is "uniquely" Korean?

In fact, most Korean hip hop AND dance is essentially an obvious mash-up mix of beats and samples originally written or produced outside of Korea. I'm not putting down Korea, and plenty of Korean music sounds good, but let's not make up BS shall we?

As for the color thing, yeah, anyone of any color can rap I guess, but what really reeks are posers. And you have to admit, there are a LOT of posers in Korea.

DT might make the grade and have some skills, but even they aren't doing anything much different than what plenty of underground American rappers had already done throughout the mid 90's.

But I like the idea of rap in all different languages, so that all cultures can share in the art-form.

I once saw to Koren guys dressed like Mexican gang members. I think I was in Hongdae. They had the bandanas pulled down over their eyes and the long shorts with the socks pulled up high and the whole nine yards. Twas a very amusing sight.
