| New ones start at 1.15 million won. 800,000 sounds better considering it is used. |

It could be cheaper in the US, but since we're in Korea, we should be dealing with prices here. If you have a link or names of some stores that advertise for cheaper let me know.
Thanks |

Really? Where?
If you're referring to $1149 in the U.S., that's ~1.7mil at the current exchange rates. And that's not including any shipping, taxes (U.S. or upon arrival here), duties, customs, etc.
IF you got a friend in the US to buy the MB Air in person or get free shipping, AND do it tax free AND bring it to you in Korea, 1.7mil.
If they are on sale here somewhere for 1.15mil new, I'd like to know so I can buy one. |

Dude, 1.3 million is a VERY GOOD price. It's generally better than used ones go for on ebay in the US. Given that it's in Korea, I think it's a great deal, especially in the condition that OP is quoting. |

There are 3 areas of concern I use to value a used product from the US, or any other country for that matter. I think Superman and Obama do too.
I saw one of these in July, and yes it is quite an impressive computer. However, I think a good chunk of the high price is on novelty rather than function. So, in my personal opinion, it's worth a few hundred less than what the price is as listed on http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=Macbook+Air&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=15208152194192709192#ps-sellers
In addition to this, we have to consider the exchange rate factor. I don't think it's fair to jack the price up on something because the won is doing so bad now. People could basically buy a computer as listed at the above URL and then resell them in Korea at a higher price. When the exchange rate becomes more favorable, you send the money back in dollars. Nice little profit.
The third point is that it is used. Why spend so much for a used computer when you could get another laptop new?
( Youtube videos http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=X69XWkBdBzs / http://kr.youtube.com/watch?v=ptMxC9bbPDQ another review site http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/166131/apple-macbook-air.html forum posts http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=239 )
Bottom line If you are sold on the novelty, buy it now. However, if you are looking for a laptop which is more on par with laptops being sold today, either buy this one under 1.0 million or get a new one under 1.0 million.
I have a 600,000 won laptop. I ended up paying 550,000 for it and found out someone else was selling theirs for 350,000. |

1. You are right that the computer is overpriced for what it offers. $850US for a used first gen is probably a reasonable price.
2. Your point would work with any item. Problem is that nobody knows when the currency market will stabilize or return to the levels they were earlier this year. You could make a nice little profit, or be saddled with little to no profit. If you are importing it to sell it and make a profit, you wouldn't be considering the one for sale here to begin with. $850 ($1150 for a new one) would run you 1.23mil won (1.67mil for a new one) today. Then factor in shipping and taxes/duties/customs, etc. It would be well over 1.3mil won. In fact, I think laptops come in duty free so you would be on the hook for shipping plus 10% VAT. That alone would bring the price to about 1.4mil won (close to 1.9 for a new one). To make a profit of about 250,000won (330,000won for the new one), the won would have to come back down to 1200/$. If you have the time to wait and the money to burn then ok.
3. It's used, but back to point one. If you were looking for value and not novelty and bells and whistles, you wouldn't be looking at the OP's machine.
Bottom line is that this is what it is. It doesn't compare with other laptops of similar spec, because it is designed for weight, style(novelty) and size, and meant for a specific market. IF you're looking for a Macbook Air, this is a decent price for a used one. They are selling for much more on the Korean marketplace sites. If you're looking for a bargain, why would you be looking at a Mac in the first place? |

If you are worried about all those extra costs, then I question needing a computer like that to begin with. It's either an outdated piece of junk, which it isn't by any means, or it's one of those computers which like the first ipod will be replaced with the next thing down the pipe. Why on earth do you want to finance a company, Apple at that, to make the next thing? You will then have to pay 2,600. Or, will you wait for the third one to come out and pay 3,900?
I prefer paying the average amount, because I know the higher ticket items will come down in value within a few years when they are eventually replaced with the new thing. Check out those videos linked earlier on, one of them refers to the Macbook as a "rich boy's toy". That's what it is. |

On the contrary. If I needed a computer like that, I WOULD factor in all the cost. I may be willing to pay more for the computer than a comparable spec PC, but I'm not stupid. If I needed one now and the extra expenses of importing made it more than this one, of course I would choose this one. If it were the other way around I would import. I'd also rather finance Apple to make the next best thing than Microsoft to make the next piece of crap that will be outdated and depreciate even faster.

The macbooks may be a rich boy's toy in SOME people's view. A few videos don't represent the entire population of computer users. I have met very few people who do not love their macbooks. They are definitely not, however, for the person on a shoestring budget. |

That's what it boils down to. My comments are for people who are not sure what they need. If you already know you need it, then like I said, buy it. However, if you are not sure, it's probably better to consider other options and decide later. |

| For the blind leading the blind, the price of a new MacBook Air is about 2.7 million in KRW at present. Don't confuse this (ultra-thin, ultra-light at about 1.5 kg / 3.3 lbs) with a host of other relatively cheaper Apple laptops. The used price, I would say, is excellent for this particular machine. |
