Recently I have been allowed to discipline my students in the classroom that I feel are disruptive. Mainly because 1 of my CTs does not discipline at all. I was wondering if anyone on here is allowed to discipline there students and what do you do? I already know I can't use "the stick" and thats fine but I want to know of some appropriate discipline for boy and girls. All I've got is make them do pushups. Thanks for any help. Very Happy

I use red/yellow card system too. Made cards, and then I hold them up (when I can be bothered). A few times I have given the entire class a yellow card. Shuts them up, oddly enough.
Anyway, yellow=warning, and red means they go out in the hall. If they were really over the line, they have to either get down on their knees (Korean teacher punishment style) or in the downward-facing-dog pose (also popular K.Teacher style).
Sometimes I just send them out.
Or make them do pushups.
Depends on the grievance.

Carry some bright red "granny" lipstick and make the naughty boys wear it and stand in the corner in front of the room. I did that two time and now there are never any discipline problems.

last year i had the kids stand at the back of the room with their hands up, facing the back wall. i also just kicked kids out of the class (obviously it's more effective in the winter time as the halls are usually (?) not heated).

push ups
out in the hall
take their chair away all class - for sleepers.
sit at the front away from friends
'dog' stance as someone said

but usually dont have to use these as the kids more or less do what i tell em now.

Once the kids get the message that you don'tput up with crap the crap stops.

I mean you don't have to beat them.

I carry a yellow card, pull it on someone that is disruptive, I mean sometimes I give finger waves for minor interruptions, the yellow is for severe disruption, the name stays on the yellow card I don't remove it after class it carries over.

Escalation after the Yellow card:

Stand in Place
(from here no further infractions are tolerated talking and fidgeting included)

Hands on head
Front of class (in the corner)standing
Front of class (in the corner)kneeling
In the hall front leaning rest

For the most part I let the CT handle discipline so I have found the escalation to be mostly unnecessary except with one particular co-teacher, but she is starting to catch on (after 2 years).

I have only once had to go beyond the hallway FLRs in that case it was a written (3 boys) assignment during lunch while I ate in front of them, haven't had a problem with these kids since.

I'll move kids that are being disruptive... If they continue I have them stand (usually closer to my desk where I can keep an eye on them), and if they go beyond that I have them stand while holding a big basket of crayons (for the grade 3s and 4s) or a chair (5s and 6s)...

But I agree with the OP of a few posts back - when you show the kids that you won't put up with their crap, the crap stops... Even if it takes a couple of classes of really riding them (calling them out on even the smallest of infractions) they'll start to wise up...

hehe I was actually chatting up one of the discplinary teachers at my school the other day and complaining about discpline as expected and he offered me the use of his heavily used wooden stick!! I declined, but cant claim I wasn't tempted. As far as dsicpline goes I let the CT deal with it and I just stop talking mid-sentence, stand at the front starring at the offending student until the other students force the offending student to shut up. If that doesnt work I make them do push-ups or stress positions after class (cus that 10min between classes is gold for them, take that away and now you have something over them that and they get in trouble next class for being late as well lol)

Pushups. Boys and girls Luuuuuvvvvv pushpus. Don't know why.

When it doesnt work for one student, give all the students around him or her pushpus.

I promise you, they self police really quickly.....even though they love pushpus.
